No matter how many times I practice this darn kana I can't get it right when it comes down to writing it. I have no problem with the "cross" portion of it but for some extremely frustrating reason my hand instinctively tries to draw a fish in the "circular spiral" part.

Anyone have any tips on getting around this? or just writing it easier? I have no problem with お or even most other hiragana, but this one is such a pain to me.

all i can say is practise

maybe try writing it in biger? like you know, when kids are learning letters they write in huge lines and then they make their writing smaller when they can do it right...

Keep writing it until you can do it. It's not difficult.

Hmm, you may have a point there. I've been writing it about the same size as I do any other language, but I guess I have to get the feel for it first to shrink it and still have the same accuracy.

I've definitely tried the "circular spiral" part of it dozens of times but I seem to have an obsession with fish (or the infinity symbol) because I may end up getting close, then completely revert back to fish.

Its difficult to me when compared to the others. Half the time its just strokes, which is kind of what I do all the time. This one requires some precision.

Don't worry so much if you can't get it perfect. Most people don't write their own alphabet exactly how it looks in print. ^^

Turns out it did help to write it larger. Thanks.

Just remember that that little circular part is basically an off-kilter の, and then it might become easier for you.

Yeah I'm using a lot of references, one of them being a book called "Remembering the Kana" and it helps with the writing portion (already got the pronunciations down). It had that exact same hint.

Thanks for the help though.

I could not learn anything at all from that book. Found it much easier just to learn them from a chart.

I feel your pain. I can never write む right. But practice really does help.

Far as I know it doesn't help much apart from actually knowing what the kana looks like and how to write it, by splitting it into "sections."

Other than that though I'm using it in conjunction with numerous other materials.
