im finding animes where the main character is friends with an idol or someone popular. i know this is a ...erm different but i hope i can get some answers

Well, I'll give it a shot.

NANA - One of the main characters is friends with the other main character, who starts out as a minor idol, who in turn used to be in a relationship with a major idol.

Natsume Yuujinchou - Natsume eventually meets a popular actor and befriends him.

Bakuman - One of the main characters is related to a (now-deceased) popular mangaka.

Aria - The main character, as well as her two friends, are the juniors or apprentices to the Three Water Fairies of Neo-Venezia, the titles given to the three most popular undines.

Ouran High School Host Club - Haruhi befriends the Host Club, where all the members are quite popular.

yeah Nana is probably the best example of the idol thing

also maybe Ga Rei Zero, Yomi seems quite popular/ important in their little niche world :)

I would like to add Fancy Lala to the recs and commend dillian for suggesting Super GALS, an anime that is sadly being forgotten with time even though it is so lovely.

Also, all of Yazawa Ai's works and many shoujo/josei works have such plots (like Skip Beat) but looking at the OP's list, I think that he will not like most of the recommendations we make. spikerdude, can you be a bit more specific as to what kind of anime you want? Looking, for example, at Aeterna's recommendations, you can see immediately that one can cook things up to suggest almost anything satisfying your request.
