Hagino Yuzuru is a normal high school student attending Houjou academy. There is a special course within the school called the Kuge course for the rich. Only students with a flower name within their name can enrol in the program. There is a "Honey system" where the special student chooses a normal student as his "honey." This relationship is like a master and honey. In return for being a "honey" the master pays all of the "honey's" tuition and must obey all commands. Hagino Yuzuru gets involved with Renge Kai, one of the special students, and it could be a big mistake for Yuzuru.
I somehow managed to stumble upon this anime while wandering MAL. I haven't seen much common, cute, lovey-dovey romance in a while, so I was like 'heck, one hour of sweet romance would be enough for now'. Now I say, I should've used my precious time for something that actually has a point. This anime... is disappointing to core.
Considering there actually IS a plot, you may say the rating shoud've been larger. But it isn't. Why? Because this plot you read in the description of the anime, is nothing more, but something being made so there could be some sexual harassment in the anime, WHICH by the way, I didn't approve at all. That isn't bloody romance. And who the hell put 'romance' tag on this thing? The only time I've seen romance was the last 5 seconds, yet I haven't seen anything that actually supported their so-called love. So this is kind of 'master-servant' relationship between students - what school in the world is giving away students to be sexually harassed? AND FOR MONEY?! Seriously, Minami-san, get some logic would you?
Like any other 2 episode OVA, this art was actually rather good. It was pretty much typical bishoujo and bishounen drawn, since all of the characters are rather cute/hot/something else, but nothing special, or original. They used the blasted slow-motion so many times, the whole anime should've lasted 20 minutes, not one hour.
Pfft. Oh well, the opening wasn't that bad, something that pretty much resembles any other romantic anime opening, but gee, the background music was terrible! It was almost as if the anime was dealing with the matter life and death, but sadly enough, it didn't. No~ we listened over-dramatic music back then when he told her she was doing it wrong, like, God forbid you drop the ball. The voice actors are annoying, and WAY~ too cliche. I was surprised when I noticed Misato voicing Yin from Darker than Black actually appeared here. What a loss of time for her. Yin rules.
God, if I got a coin for every second of main male character saying words 'idiot' and 'honey' I would be surrounded by Japanese waiters, cosplaying and yelling 'irashaimasen' by now. Their personalities are all so goddamn blunt, so undeveloped, and just illogical! The girl almost willingly let the guy touch her anywhere he wants, and in front of people. And not just her, he! HE! Who in the world harasses a girl in front of other people?!
The other characters seem to enjoy the show any time that happens. And in the end, it's actually hinted the guy loves the girl. Aww, well, shoving your hand down her panties is not really making a point, I believe.
Well, it wasn't as horrible as 'OMG, MY EYES' but it was very boring, very predictable, and extremely cliche. The rare moments where something romantic would happen were cute, and the beginning actually looked promising, so I gave the credits for that, although I didn't enjoy that as close as much I believed I will.
No, it's not decent, it's bad, I don't understand why the 'names' of the ranking are different in the review from ones in your anime list. This anime has no developed story, just the settings, and horrible ones at that, characters are total idiots, and every single scene is presented as something VERY dramatic, while it isn't at all.
This anime sucks. Point made. You don't have to take it, though.read more
Every anime is a small miracle. Except for this one. This is the opposite of a miracle.
Consider the hours upon hours of work it takes to create something like this. Art, animation, sound, writing, distribution, it all takes a lot of effort on the part of many people for something like this to take form. So why, why, WHY would these talented individuals waste their effort on this...thing?
Let's break this down. The setting is a school where girls go to serve as "honeys" that service the male students. This essentially means they're slaves. The main character, Yuzuru, is paired with a student who treats her terribly and sexually harasses her. He walks in on her naked, he orders her to strip, et cetera. There is more than one scene in which he threatens to rape her. One of these scenes is not only in public, but in front of an audience. Everyone other than Yuzuru is apparently OK with this.
So clearly there's something deeply wrong with this setting. But Honey x Honey Drops doesn't care, and doesn't even acknowledge this. Instead it insists on pursuing the romance between Yuzuru and her abusive master. Yuzuru feels compelled to return to her master, as if suffering from some form of traumatic bonding. This may have actually been an interesting point to pursue, and maybe would have stopped this show from being so egregiously repulsive. But no. We're supposed to believe this is normal love. By the end it's made very clear that the male lead, whose entire character is constituted by how poorly he treats people and nothing else, is supposed to be the hero. He's supposed to be the good guy. He's supposed to be one half of a normal couple. The show's plot will go off in random and stupid directions to hammer this nail into your skull until the pointed end comes out the roof of your mouth.
The music in this show is aggressive. That's the only word to describe it. It's loud, unpleasant, it sounds bizarre, and there doesn't seem to be any specific type of music the show employs. The only thing that makes any one background song similar to another is just how removed each one is from the rest of existing forms of music. The art and animation don't bear any serious flaws, but it's only rubbing salt in the wound that there were competent people working on this.
Is it unfair for me to say this is the worst anime I've ever seen? It's certainly my least favorite, nothing else raises as much rage in me. I've seen anime made less competently, but those at least seemed sincere on some level, which only makes this appear more insulting. I don't know if the manga is better, and I never intend to read it. Overall, this is a reprehensible piece of work whose few redeeming qualities only serve to make it more appalling. If you want to watch it, please don't do it in a way that would allow its creators to make any money. read more
You know the top reviews of this two part OVA say... "don't watch it" -- well, if you were thinking of ignoring them and watching it anyway just because it sounds interesting... DON'T DO IT!!! Because that's what I did, because I figured it can't be that bad, I'm bored so I'll watch it anyway and geez..............
It was offensive, ridiculous, and mind-numbingly lame. The main guy is the guy who voiced Hikaru in Ouran, which I liked him for... and I liked his voice in this too, except that there is something mentally wrong with his character's personality. He seems a bit deranged, trusts no one, yet somehow knows how to love in a twisted way.
The story was shallow and forced (I think because things were glazed over - hopefully this will be fixed in the manga, which I have yet to read) and made no sense in some places. The most ridiculous things happen and really make you think "what? why would an armadillo be there..." but you know what, forget it, let's just stop using our brain for this one.
Even if I stop using my brain, and there is definitely a storyline... why does this anime suck so bad? I can't figure it out, but all I can say is that it pained me to watch it and I hope the manga's better (usually is). I will be the next in line to say: Just don't watch it!read more
This practically is one for worst Shoujo Anime I have ever watched. Kai Renge in all his male glory is the epitome of masculinity. But he is also the male main character who's mean and nice to the female main character at the same time. Talk about bipolar. Well, we all know this type of character has issues but we don't see any light on that based on the 2-episode OVA. Let me try the manga for ya but that's for later. The female character on the other hand is someone I would love to strangle without remorse and not because I'm jealous. Okay, I know she's drawn to Kai as I am (he's all hot and damn) but I need some character depth in here! At first she was the feisty one who would stand against Kai and his effin' rude manners but as the story went forward, she just went backwards into a peony rat. Not that I don't sympathize that your education depends on a perverted hot guy with issues but can't she be more steadfast and less helpless like saying what she wants to say? Talk about a damsel in distress and a very naive one at that. The other corner of the triangle is hard to like as well. All in all, he is such a pretentious biatch who knows nothing but to meddle with Kai's affairs for his own personal gain and his crooked mind.read more
