I'm searching for an anime that has kabuki involved with it, either kabuki shows or characters who dress kabuki style, or anything like that. For example, Jiraiya from Naruto.

Any suggestions, please?

Kabuki plays a very important role in the sophisticated, geo-pollitical mecha anime *Gasaraki*.

Like Beck,*Kaikan Phrase* is about an emerging Rock band and the music industry in Japan. One of the band members is from an aristocratic family very much involved in traditional Kabuki theatre.

*Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi* (Note: Even though the character in TIAA is female, I don't believe women were actually permitted to take the Kabuki stage. As in Shakespeare's time, men played all the roles. If I am in error, please let me know. )

Though not specifically Kabuki, Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto initially centers around a form of traditional theatre. bogs down a bit now and again, but over all it is a very good series that blends actual historical events with the supernatural. I liked it a lot.

Bunraku is an amazing form of puppet theatre. I started Ayatsuri Sakon but have yet to finish it. It's pretty good but I got side tracked by things I liked better.

Nitaboh Is about the evolution Tsugaru, a muisc style unique to Japan. Its founder was very much influen ced by the accompying shamisen muisc that accompanied the Bunraku puppet theatre. If you are interested in Japanese culture this movie is very much worth your time.

Besides anime with kabuki, does anyone know of manga with kabuki (Besides Kunisaki no Izumo) or rather, any good kabuki?

I'm trying to force myself into the world of kabuki, uh huh.

I think we might get in trouble for necro'ing a thread, but just quickly : )

Best I can think of (unfortunately I know bugger all about Kabuki) is neither strictly anime nor strictly Kabuki.....but stop motion animation with puppets!

This guy's traditional based stories:

http://myanimelist.net/people/8222/Kawamoto_Kihachiro

He is/was one of Japan's grand (puppet) masters of stop motion animation:

e.g.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/7170/House_of_Flames - is based off a plot from a Noh play.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/6680/Dojoji_Temple - and this has a connection with a Noh play as well.

Or so I gather. I've only seen House of Flames - but actually I did kind of like it. Not normally one to put up my hand for puppets - but he achieves a remarkable beauty with the sort of limited movements and facial expressions of a puppet :)

And I guess the Tale of Genji would be up there as a source for Noh theatre plots. So maybe:
