Well you could start with the classic Gundam series that was quite good for it's time but now it's so old that could seem a little boring and out of date to you.
I believe you should start with Gundam Seed that it's quite similar, like a retelling of the first story in a way but with better art and animation.
Now many have a bad opinion about Gundam seed and especially it's continuation "Gundam Seed destiny" but i think you should ignore there voices because first is very good for first experience and because those objecting are mostly Gundam maniacs with ridiculous perceptions that don't affect a new guy, or they are people who loved some other Gundam series first and hate it just because it wasn't what they wanted.

After that you could try Gundam 00 that is very modern and quite good.
I also saw Gundam Wing that although i have to say it wasn't bad it does get a little boring and uninteresting at times. In a way is not a bad show to watch but i think is not good for a first experience.

Cool, I was looking for a Gundam thread for some time now. Red, are there any series in particular that you'd recommend? I've only watched four series: Wing, SEED, Destiny and 00. I watched a bit of G Gundam when I was a kid too, but I never finished it.

In all seriousness, I suggest you to start watching gundam 0079, the very first gundam series and follow chronologically, if you can stomach old animation and relatively slower-paced story when compared with newer series.

But, it doesn't hurt to watch SEED and 00 first either. I watched them prior to UC gundams and quite liked them. I personally prefer SEED to 00 plotwise. But, gundam 00 is quite modern as monad says. It's after all set in our own timeline, and touches upon terrorism and disputes over energy issues, which is why you will find yourself feel closer to it than any other gundams. The main drawback is that 00's characters are quite flat and one-dimensional, IMO. Seed at least tries to develop, in a generic and cliched way.

But, I suggest you refrain from Wing. It does get stagnant and boring at many times, with abundant reused scenes.

Now is the time for you start watching UC gundam series. Start with this one first.

IIRC SEED was also pretty abundant with this. (Freedom's Full Burst?)

But yeah, there's no problem in starting with a newer Alternate Universes if you have trouble with old art. It can serve as a good introduction to the whole franchise. Though if you don't have any problem with old art, then watch from the very first one (1979).

@geno: As LadySylvanas said, you might want to start watching the first Gundam, seeing that you have watched the newer Alternate Universes.

Well, I'd recommend the original and the UC timeline first and foremost. Don't know about Wing or 00, but SEED was nothing but a cheap copy of the original with more contrived melodrama and stupid plot twists if you ask me.

Contrary to RedSuisei though, I'd recommend the UC series after chronological order rather than release date, so something like...

Mobile Suit Gundam
Mobile Suit Gundam IGLOO (Some of the episodes take place before the first series though, but no matter)
Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the pocket
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust memories
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
Mobile Suit Gundam F91
Mobile Suit Victory Gundam

I was considering just watching Wing first, for nostalgia, and then following the order this thread recommended. I remember watching some of Wing on Toonami as a kid and i loved it.

Yeah, I was planning to watch the original MSG sometime or another. I think the first time I resolved to watch it I couldn't find any download links for it at the time.

And lol @ Baman's Orky Santa. Why not put one in your sig too? XD

Thanks for the link, but I'm already an active BakaBT member, when I said I couldn't find links, that was years ago :)
