I had been sent to the outskirts of the South American border as an acting officer of American troops to investigate a potential rebel uprising. Upon arriving my forces fell under attack by a larger force and many soldiers died. I gathered my forces and retreated into the forests, but we were being pursued. The area held many traps and soon we became separated. I realized just how bleak the situation was as I made my way further into the forest.
At nightfall I stopped to rest and prayed that my pursuers has stopped. However, men were not my only enemy in these wild lands. I heard a rustle in a nearby bush, and when I turned around I was confronted by a jaguar. It must have smelled fresh prey and was now encircling me. For me, who had lost weapon previously and was wounded, the odds of victory were low. The jaguar stopped circling and began to stare at me. I could only stare back as I felt my skin crawl.
I heard another sound from behind some more foliage. I looked to the source and saw two Ocelots emerge from the foliage. It seemed that the jaguar was on their territory, but it had already set its sights on its prey and refused to back off. The jaguar took a step forward and the two Ocelots pounced upon it. The three animals clawed and bit one another until the jaguar finally backed off. The two Ocelots now turned to me, the prize they had just one. They begin to sniff at me. I knew I should have worn that Ocelot-off spray!
The two animals soon realized that I was too big to eat. They headed off back to their den, but one of them briefly paused and looked back at me. I looked into its eyes and we seemed to reach some sort of understanding. It then hurried after its companion. With that, I dozed off.
I awoke the next morning to the sound of voices. I got up and hid myself amongst the foliage and then watched for the source of the voices. It was the rebels, and they had captured my forces. This was bad, I wasn't sure if I could even escape at that point. The rebels moved on and I took note of the direction of their camp.
The situation was bleak; I needed to free my men. A thought crossed my mind that I should seek out the Ocelot's aid in this endeavor. Rumors told of Ocelots being another intelligent species aside from humans, but they lacked opposable thumbs and thus could not compete with humans. I went to search the Ocelot's den, but upon arriving I found it vacant.
I heard more rebel's voices and this time I was out in the open. The nearby area was unsuitable for hiding and I wouldn't be able to outrun them in my condition. I was caught. I tried making my way back to a safe spot, but the rebel search party soon spotted me. As they approached however, the men fell prey to attacks from above. A group of oncillas, or tree Ocelots, descended upon their ranks. As fear crept into the rebels, a pack of Ocelots emerged and began to take down my foes. I noticed among them, the two Ocelots from the previous night. It seems they had understood my plight and, for some reason, had come to my aid.
Thinking about it, the rebels had been abusing the forest for their own purposes, cutting down trees and lighting fires. It's no wonder the Ocelots were displeased by their actions, however, up to this point they never had the guidance to liberate them from such fiends.
Siezing my chance, I demonstrated my intellectual capabilities and gained their respect. I took command of the Ocelot forces and their other feline allies, oncillas, margays, and eyra. These forces had a combination of air and ground capabilities, and all were skilled at stealth. Utilizing these advantages, I began my move against the rebel forces.
We came at the rebels from numerous sides. I kept a party of oncillas stationed in trees to ambush the enemy from above. I decided to use myself to lure out the enemy forces while a stealth party of Ocelot troops moved into the main camp and liberated my soldiers. Realizing that their camp was under attack, the rebels would fall back, and then I would spring my ambush upon them. With any luck, the rebel forces would be completely taken by surprise and surrounded.
The execution of the plan went out smoothly, however, the rebels had several soldiers remain in camp. When the Ocelot stealth party arrived, they were able to sound an alarm and set off several flames as a scare tactic against the Ocelots. I was busy at other parts of the battlefield and was unable to issue new orders. Luckily however, the Ocelot I had met last night was there. He was the acting officer of the group and quickly regrouped his Ocelot troops. They vanished into the forest without a trace and the rebels were left confused.
The rebels decided not to retreat to camp and press their attack, which made the ambush difficult to carry out. However, I had prepared for such circumstances and had lured the enemy soldiers into a trap. A thicket of trees had separated their forces into two sections. Only my Ocelot forces could pass through the thicket, and they did so. Soon all my forces were concentrated on and encircled one of the two rebel groups. They quickly fell to the power of claw and fang.
The other rebel party backtracked and reformed their lines into a defensive position. I would no longer be able to ambush them. However, as the situation escalated, the Ocelot stealth force at the camp returned, but from the other side. The rebels were caught off guard, and this time the Ocelot charge prevented them from accessing fire. My soldiers were freed and they took supplies from the camp. My forces at the camp then swung around to the remaining rebel group's flanks.
The enemy, realizing they were under attack, turned around to return fire. It was then that I unleashed the Ocelot charge from the main body of my forces. Coming from several directions, the rebel forces were soon surrounded once again. As the Ocelots closed in to close range, the rebel's guns became ineffective. The battle was soon won and victory was ours.
With the rebel uprising ended, it was time to return to my station. I met with the Ocelots before leaving and thanked them for their aid. Before I left however, the Ocelot officer came up to me. He once again stared into my eyes.
"I see", I said. I walked up to him and placed my hand on his shoulder. "Come with me, Silver Fang." The Ocelot obliged upon hearing his name and followed me back out of the forest. With a brilliant Ocelot officer at my side, the future suddenly looked much more bright.
The struggle at hand had reached its resolution, but larger dangers still loomed. The Ocelots had demonstrated their intelligence, but amongst the Ocelot faction lies a number of groups; not all of which were peaceful. There existed among Ocelots, those who yearned for power. I wonder, just how Ocelot and human relationships will play out in the coming years...
Hey, if you were on the verge of death and saved by an Ocelot, I'm sure you'd be obsessed with them too!
First off, it's such a great word. It's not something you would hear very often and it just sounds awesome. Secondly, they're smaller than the main felines, but larger than a housecat, so they're a mix between cute and deadly. Thirdly, the Ocelot itself is a source of intrinsic motivation. What more could you ask for?
It's not just Ocelots either. I also have manatees, buzzards, sea otters, stats fairies, anything Higurashi related (especially scratching), and, well, the list will continue to grow. My obsessions are my passions ^_>^
