Seeing as the remake has begun skipping arcs from season 2 onward, I made this originally for a friend and for anyone who cares to see those arcs or any removed content. This list will be updated as episodes of the next seasons come out. If I miss anything, please tell me so I can go check again and update this!

Seeing as some of the cut content may be considered questionable to some audiences, I feel the need to make clear the following: You are not forced to follow this guide. You can even pick and choose what calls your interest. I only personally believe that altering the presentation of another writer's work is an interesting thing to analyse at best, an annoyance at worse, disrespectful at worst. If you don't care about the changes disclosed here, then go on with your forum-surfing.

Changes present all across the anime:
  • Undetailed female nudity/Barbie anatomy (the men have their full six-packs and pecs though --still nippleless--).
  • Foreigners lack their adorably/comically imperfect grammar that is so iconic to the fanbase of the manga and 1989 anime.
  • Clothing references to China (symbols and writings of the name) have been removed.

Season 1:
  • Season 1 is a great adaptation of the manga. It only has some miscellaneous dialogue changes and some gags missing, possibly to squeeze most things into single episodes?:

Season 2:

"—Please save me before the Grinch makes me do an evil thing.
—We have to save him."

Thank you for this comparison. Regarding the order of season 2, I thought, because they seemed episodic, it didn't really matter which order to watch them in, but I also thought they would be in a true order to the original, so this is kinda supprising.

Thanks for making this. I’ve been intimidated by the original series, and loving the new one. So this westerns like it could be the best of both worlds for me!

To be fair, the nudity itself is still there, just a tiny bit undetailed due to modern Japanese TV policies.

I was not expecting to get anyone sassy over mentioning the nudity (well, I sort of did, but I was expecting to mitigate it). This was just part of listing the changes. Complaining or spawning a debate about it is not the point of my post.
I apologise for any misunderstandings.

The only thing I was sincerely thrown off by was the missing Bakusai Tenketsu arc. My husband only read one volume of the manga & hasn't seen the OG anime adaptation, so he had to put up with me wondering repeatedly when that was gonna happen bc I was sure it was due to come up.
I don't see HOW they can cut it. It's gotta just be pushed out of order into s3. I hope.

I noticed we weren't seeing as much of Kodachi as we should, but I don't care too much about that.

The Love Pill arc is a little disappointing bc I feel like establishing the history between Cologne & Happosai is indeed important, but I guess it's not THAT critical.

The other cut arcs & gags are sooo minor, I couldn't really care less. The toned down nudity & omission of underage drinking is just par for the course. It really is to be expected & I can't say it's that big of a deal. Yeah, for an ecchi series, it's a little bland with the censorship, but oh well.

We are NOT, however, missing out bc of toned down racism, predatory groping, & homophobia. I guess letting people know those things are in the source material is fine, but acting like the racism was charming is nonsense. Plus, they've BARELY toned that down with characters like the Jusenkyou Guide still being very much a caricature.

The change to logos on clothes & such saying "CHINA" is a little odd, but overall, it's clear they're trying to right some of the wrongs of the source. Takahashi has NEVER been perfect, but she's also GROWN since she published a lot of that stuff. I expect a good deal of the changes have been her influence. Stuff that did fly in the 80s & 90s doesn't fly now, nor should most of it, tbh.

I've been glad to see a lot of the changes & think the core goal of them has been RESPECT, above all.

This is a valuable guide for newcomers & older fans who want to brush up, but quite a bit feels like complaints about POSITIVE changes implemented with this adaptation. (I do see with your last comment here that this wasn't your intent. I'm not trying to dig into you here & I sincerely hope what I've had to say here is constructive, rather than argumentative.)

Thank you for sharing though & I do hope you're able to keep updating this with further seasons. I really do appreciate it.

I think in the end it's all a matter of personal preference, depending on whether you're fine with that stuff or not. The skipped arcs are definitely a shame, especially the ones that were important or iconic.
I never thought that the accents were racist, because it never crossed my mind the first time around. A lot of people from the OG fanbase agree with me, and a friend who knew Ranma through the remake agrees that having no Shampoo speech was an unfortunate loss.
I don't understand the removal of China references, though. I think it was because of modern political reasons, but it still makes no logical sense to me. It's as if a US show were to avoid references to Russia because they're political adversaries. :/

@kdecalcio Yeah, I really hope they just do some arcs out of order & wanted to give them more attention than they'd have gotten in this season, but…truly who knows what they have planned.

The only thing I can think of with the China logos that makes sense in a non-political framing would be copyright. Some of the clothing designs from the manga were just direct copies of branded clothing - which was fairly common in 80s-90s manga. Copyright laws have changed quite a bit in Japan since then; The Tokyo Babylon anime reboot got into hot water over "plagiarism" of clothing designs & ended up cancelled, for example.

It'd be annoying, but I'd prefer that to some alternatives…especially after the whole thing with having a separate dub for Solo Leveling bc of cultural backlash re: South Korea…
