What do you think of the series?

The protagonist is an elementary school student till chapter 90. Then the story moves to junior high school period. (I prefer this arc.) Though the character design looks cute and you may think the series is a manga for kids, the explanation for baseball play is genuine. Also characters' thoughts are depicted well. The art style falls between shounen and seinen. The art skill is slightly above average. The series is serialized in Shounen Sunday, a major manga magazine. The series never forgets to insert dressing scenes of female characters in a dressing/locker room or somewhere quite often, since these scenes greatly affect the popularity. (The series has more female players than male ones. So, there was an impressive phrase about the disadvantage due to gender. "Did you see their bodies? They are built like grown men, not kids. The reality is harsh for us girls. The party was over. The Cinderella spell has resolved.") As a whole, it's a nice entertainment even if you are not a eager fan of sports manga like me. Incidentally, I haven't read the prequel, but it's not an issue at all.
