Sooo, let's make a normal topic for a change.

What is your relationship to nature ?

Do you see it as something to be protected, to be exploited ?

Does it have some sacred aspect to you, do you consider it an essentially good or bad thing, or neither ?

How do you see the evolution of humanity in that regard, the way we "got out of the jungle", do you believe the modern world is a corruption of nature, or was it an achievement in fixing some of its cruel aspects in your eyes ?

I'm curious !

The best thing about nature is that throughout history every male animal fucks only female animals.

Humans are part of nature; don't delude yourself into thinking you're special and can be different.

Such a simple and yet such a complicated question, to be honest. For me, nature is one of the few things that make sense in life: only in the forest do I truly feel at home, and the moment I step onto a dirt road, I already begin to long for that freedom and serenity I just experienced.

But I'm also scared of it to death, honestly. It is utterly merciless, relentless, indifferent... and still infinitely beautiful. Like a cold woman who does not love, but only allows herself to be admired.

Protect nature? Come on! What we really need is to protect ourselves from ourselves, nature will manage just fine without our generosity. After all, you run into the forest to escape from yourself and from other naked apes, away from this organized chaos of concrete boxes and highway interchanges we call civilization, into another kind of organized chaos - just to listen to the grass grow?

We should learn how to live within it, not fight - whether for or against, it no longer matters. You have already lost once you have taken a side in that struggle, being a guest rather than a family member. Poor us, miserable, homeless, foolish children of the Earth.

PS: Sorry, I'm in a slightly melancholic mood today, haha.

Evolution of humanity - they were already exploiting nature for their intentions in Stone Age, of course not as much as we do right now.

To me it is in between, if there's a place which is a wonderfull landscape, having some very old environments [ex. trees] etc. Than it should be protected.
But also as long as it doesn't affect hugely on the whole landscape I don't see a problem of having a mine gathering resources or other type of industry, if it's possible I would like for that industry having a policy to have a regrowing of environment for ex. planting trees, for each one cut down.

@SmugSatoko Don't try to reason, they're a Christian fundie who choses to live in their own world full of falsities. Ignore that rabble and move on.

Nature to me I suppose is protected green areas where nature and it's animals can be safe, and also one of the few places to find some peace, and quiet and less people.

I don't have much of a relationship with nature here, as I live in the middle of an industrial town. It's very urban, and because of trends and ease of maintenance, not many people have flowering plants or trees (I'm one of the very few that do), as they have fake lawns or just pavement or stones.
Before this though my previous home was in the countryside in a pretty isolated location. You'd see animals like bats, hedgehogs, birds of prey, even sometimes a deer if it wandered onto the narrow country roads. I picked up birding as a hobby when I was in hospital for a year as a kid. I hating being indoors so much that I'd spend as much time as I could in the grounds, where there was a small wooded area, as well as a canal nearby. I had a bunch of different nature identifying books that I'd take along with me, and I saw many different things in such a small area. It was a great hobby to have at the time and I loved it.

Nature should absolutely be protected, more trees should be planted to help cool the Earth. Many bird species I saw back then are pretty rare today too. I don't see many birds around, although strangely we have dozens of pied wagtails. I've never seen so many before, especially in urban environments. I've dubbed it the national bird of Ellesmere Port lol. Ravens too we have, I've never seen them before in the wild, yet they live here.
Not sure if I like the trend of "urban rewilding" though, where grass verges and other areas are left to go crazy....I sometimes think it's just an excuse for the council to not bother cutting them. I do also think we need more reservoirs, we got some scares with the last heatwave here recently.

I think the future all depends on which party is elected next... currently we're pretty green and still are aiming for the green model. But the next potential party just wants to do scarily similar policies to what the US is doing, and unfortunately their gaining in popularity here.

Nature is first and foremost a home that is largely populated by non-humans. Things like whether or not said home looks pretty to humans are of second importance. As you can see by my statement, I am not of the belief that we should endlessly exploit nature for the benefit of humanity.

Once you think of nature as a home, we must ask, how good of a home is it? It's a terrible one, actually. The vast majority of wild animals are going to die before they reach adulthood. We know this because most animals have many offspring, and the only way for the animal population to be stable is if most of them die before they reproduce.

And so the modern world is not a corruption of nature. Nature is corrupt. If a god created nature, I am convinced the god is evil. We have created a small haven for humans to escape the brutality of nature for that reason. Treating nature in the best way is not a matter of not corrupting it but a matter of cleaning up the corruption that already plays out.

So what is nature to me? Nature is a hellhole that could only be conceived by a demonic mind that ought to be set right.

It's the first time you talk about god on my memory, haha.

Me fishing under a tree with a string tight around my toe and a bobber on the other end with bait. Maybe that's too specific. 🤔

Probably just usually isn't relevant since religious threads are against the rules. Otherwise I'd talk about it when it came up!

I was Born, and grew up within PORTLAND, Oregon; a City based in a Rainforest Region...
So i feel very much at home within areas surrounded in Lush, Green Forests.

There Are, In Fact, a great many such Regions within Japan... So I Know that there is a Great Deal of the country
in which i would indeed feel Right at Home Living within; as if i had Spent my Entire Life there, Even...

It's very scary and dangerous, not how your typical hippies present it. Still of course it needs to be protected, cause it keeps me alive. I still think it's better to have tried to achieve civilization, than living out in the world like cave men. The state of nature is brutish and short, and I like enjoying my decline from a climate controlled space, with my computer, personally. If I could just do that without killing the ecosphere that would be nice.

Well that is just incorrect. You know male ducks will literally rape the corpses of other male ducks? Yeah see this is why nature is scary.

Doesn't even make sense from that perspective lol. The world is literally evil and corrupt in the bible. Welp, I don't expect much from your average Christian. My experiences in the church revealed to me most of them only care about culture and tradition, rather than a search for the truth.
