A neighborhood that's dangerous and full of violence

•What're some tactics to survive in these types of neighborhoods ?

•Whats the level of your street smarts ?
•Have you ever witnessed any catastrophes in the ghetto?

No, I have always been living in the same safe district.
No, this isn't my signature.

I don't think I've lived somewhere that had quite all the things listed thank god, but our 2nd home in my hometown was pretty rough.
Like it's quite unbelievable that this house was just down the road from our main home in one of my city's most sought after addresses, but this neighbourhood felt like it could have been in a completely different country lol.

People staggering home at night either drunk or high would go up everyone's driveways and knock on the doors or windows, this happened often. Usually they would just carry on to the next house, although sometimes they'd hang around outside our house. One night my mother was alone painting the walls in her nightie (I guess without any curtains or nets up?) and a youth was outside our house. Can't remember exactly what happened in this story, but I think my mother told him to go away and they were having a back-and-forth and he tried getting in the house to her. Then he pulled down his pants and masturbated in front of her. I think she called for help and also called the police but he was wasn't caught as far as I remember?

I also remember someone we didn't know was claiming to live at our house, and they were wanted by the police, so they turned up and searched our home for this phantom person. They didn't find them, but the Police said if we didn't allow them in they'd have to force their way in, so we let them.

Live - No, although some people unaware of my country's culture would call my whole town as a "bad neighborhood".

Been around regularly, working [as charity volunteer], other - Yes. I've been regularly to some worst districts/streets of Legnica - which is considered to be among the top dangerous towns/cities in my country. I've also been very often in some very bad neighbourhoods of Poznań and Wrocław, aswell as I've visited one of them in Szczecin.

I do have my ways to go through them, talk my way out with provocators/other hostile people or navigate to avoid any stress/heated situation.

Have I witnessed something, besides some ganging up on someone and bigger fights than no. I only heard news or rumours about robberies, attacks, knife attacks, other weapon attacks, shootings etc.

Yeah, literally living right now, despite living in a small almost rural place close to the city center we have a lot of criminal groups around here, there is not a lot of killing, but when there is killing is quite gruesome.

Be lucky, and if some criminal group say that you have to pay some BS, you pay in full and on time.

Basically, don't go out late, don't go out with your cellphone in hands and judge the book by its cover. Not that it always works, my mother a few months ago told a story that had just happened, she saw a beautiful young guy riding his motorcycle, and as he was passing by he dropped something, she thought it was his cellphone, and she went to get it for him, when she got close she noticed that it was a pistol magazine, and when the guy came back she noticed that she had a radio commonly used by criminal gangs, luckily the guy just went a took the magazine as she was paralyzed by the shock and he went away.

Not exactly seen, but heard, there was a guy that lived close by, some criminals discovered that he had a friend that was a cop, they then
, and the worst part is that my stepfather is a cop, so I don't like walking around too much around here, nor talking about my stepfather.
There was also a neighbor a few years back that was
but this last one was not an innocent guy, she was part of a rival gang and had just left prison, also he ignored the warning that the gang gave to his mother telling him not to come back.

The neighborhood I currently live in used to be very very family-oriented, sadly many of those families have since moved on and we have a lot more rowdy people in our area.

Not really but ig I technically lived in a really crappy apartment before my mom moved to my grandparents house when I was like 3.

Ok, so I OBVIOUSLY don't remember a lot about that apartment since I was literally 1, 2, and 3 at the time 😭😭😭 Butttt from what I can see on google that apartment has a whopping 2.1 stars, and people mentioning bedbugs, roaches, and mice in like half the reviews 😭😭😭

no, I live in the hills but I've gone to sketchy parts of oakland before, the people are mostly chill but you never know. If someone you don't know tries to start some bs just keep walking and probably don't be alone either. One time I was drunk at 5 am with a friend though and walked home alone in the wrong direction through a sketchy area before realizing I was going the wrong way and then not getting home until like 8:30 in the morning after blackout drunk walking through like multiple crime scenes

I have only changed houses once. Our current neighborhood is pretty safe. Its more like the center of the city so people living in these areas are more educated or business class. There are some cases of snatching and mugging on the opposite street late at night.
Our previous neighborhood was also pretty safe but there were some fights once or twice every year. They did involve guns and stuff but no shots were ever fired.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Well, I used to live next to a crossroads with no traffic light. Every once in a while some speeders ended up crushing into each other. Didn't see any casualties though. One time there was an accident with the hot water underground pipeline – that blast flew past the 9th floor. That was pretty wild. Then, for like 7 years in a row it felt like I was living on a fucking construction site, because, well, someone decided to knock down an old typography and replace it with a bunch of condos... Nope, 14-floor apartment buildings. Then, all the neighbors around me were very fucking passionate about doing a repair job in their apartments year round – every morning, the first thing you hear is that fucking "BRRRRRR" from someone's drill a floor below. I think everyone would want to stick that drill up the owner's ass without turning it off, but my desire was much stronger, because when I one time turned my the volume on my guitar amp up, the same fuckers came to me whining about the noise level, bruh...
Also, one time I saw a police assault team ambush someone in the car parked on the sidewalk of that crossroads. Otherwise, like, eh... That neighborhood was fine overall, unless you don't go out in the evening.

Yeah used to live in "the hood" when my family was poor.

Mind your own business.

N/A and no, because thankfully we managed to get out before anything bad happened, to us at least.

Lived in a very large city most of my life and also moved around the city my whole childhood/teenage years and most of them were bad neighborhoods, so I have LOADS of stories but this one really stuck out to me..
I moved out of my parents house and into my first apt with my bestie for a few years, it was one of the worst neighborhoods I lived in. While we were moving our shit into the truck, some guy just walked ALL the way into our apt, shut the door behind him and had his hands hidden in his hoodie. He pestered us for our water heater until we finally got him to leave. This was also at night time so needless to say we almost shit our pants that night. Mind you we were both early 20s and both female

No but I have stayed in Hotels in rough areas before. I tell you it is proper funny to be woken up by the police in the early morning knocking on the door looking for someone when you are jet lagged and tired.

Well not by those standards. But that's cause I live in fucking Finland and everywhere is safer than most places on earth.

But I've lived in places that have more impoverished people and generally I've had no problems as violence is mostly done inside the home to ones family here and getting mugged or something is really rare.
