| Well... I understand that they tried to do something at least a little different, and the effort is appreciated. Time travel episodes are usually quite complicated to write, but even so, I feel like it was lacking. This episode was the closest thing to the haircut episode, but there were so many scenes that genuinely didn't contribute anything. Going to look at fans of different prices, finding a very expensive one whose design they don't understand, asking Chibita for his and him refusing, and Iyami trying to sell them a defective one. These are scenes that make sense within the story but don't serve any narrative purpose. Nothing funny happens in the scenes. They don't reveal any character traits in them (except maybe that Iyami is a swindler and Osomatsu is shameless, things we already knew and are shown in a very simplistic way). The continuity thing was good. I like that they go back in time and see something that genuinely happened in the past (even though they didn't interfere with it). If there was something in the haircut episode, a Chekhov's gun, that wasn't explained in that episode, and then, in this one about time travel, we understood what it was about, it would have been a thousand times better. It's true that, aside from Osomatsu, the Matsunos' personalities this season feel very toned down. Hell, even Totoko feels like a completely different person. She would never offer to do a favor for the Matsunos or bother their customers just to fulfill that favor. The time travel thing fits perfectly with a series like Osomatsu san, but the premise that they're suffering because it's too hot is something that's been touched on before, in an episode that was ten times better than this one. I don't know why this season's episodes try to convey that sense of melancholy and nostalgia, if, at the end of the day, they're not showing us sad or melancholic situations that make us feel the same way they do, in addition to seeing them "grow," of course. Even if they do, as people, they're not growing. They're just changing. So far, this season, personally, has disappointed me quite a bit. And I don't know how it could change, now that it's halfway through, to fix that. I guess we just have to wait. |
| Classic Osomatsu move, throwing the whole operation just to make fun of his brothers LOLL. I don't blame him with that once-in-a-lifetime front row seat tbh. 😂 Maybe their fan is working now cause their past selves began being more careful with it. Especially after experiencing their future selves stealing their fan, then being considerate enough to return them. 🥹 |
| Eeeeeeh It's aight. Again not very funny, but It feels Osomatsu-san -y so I guess it's still making progress. My favorite moments was Chibita handing Osomatsu a hand fan and telling him to leave, and the boys past selves reasonably going "Buy a new on in the future, you assholes!?" at the boys time traveling to solve their problem. Again, still feels like they're terrified to do anything crazy. I can see the ingredients here for a good to decent gag, but they're not pushing it. |
