The sleep segment has too much laziness and not enough smartness. The fish segment is good though.

Not really much to say about this episode... There were two segments both of which were kinda dull though I'd say the second part with the fishing was better.
Honestly this is my least favorite episode of this season so far.

I kind of liked the fishing thing tbh. That first segment was boring, but in all fairness quite realistic considering. But the one fishing hermit actually being one of the brothers cracked me up. LOL

The second part was good, but the first one...the only thing I liked about that was that it was a follow up of the previous episode which was also a weak story. What is even going on, why did they changed osomatsu san' this season, its like a completely different anime. I miss the 4th wall break and the skits and the gags. Someone made a decision and I don't think its paying off.

The fishing music theme remind me of Tsuritama's.
That sound must be a japanese cultural thing I guess.

I hate to say this because I love the previous seasons (Season 1 being probably the biggest hyperfixation of my teenage years) but this one is so boring

it's like this is a slice of life series now.... i actually liked the first gag, i feel like having them just lay around for an entire segment is on brand in a way. but the pacing is so off with this season. i'm not sure if i prefer the unfunny jokes of season 3 or this, where there's not even an attempt at a joke.

In order for the first segment to really work I thought it needed to be the whole episode. It's sort of a "screw the audience" joke where animation and shots are limited, but that's the joke. They more or less break the fourth wall with some of the dialogue during it acknowledging it as such. That it would be perceived as lazy by some mysterious, unknown entity...aka us, the audience. The humor in the whole thing relies on not knowing how long it's gonna keep going and the theory that repeating the same joke long enough can make it funny again after it's stopped being funny.

Second story was okay, but nothing memorable.

I seriously can’t believe the identity crisis this show is having, but without opening that entire can of worms… The first skit was just not funny, and there’s not much to say about it because nothing really happened. Maybe it would have been fine if the skit was 1/4 of its actual length but I digress.

I was more okay with the fishing skit, but I think it really shed light on how much this season has stripped the characters of their personality. Why the hell was Jyushimatsu the fisherman and not Karamatsu, whose entire identity is being performative for other people’s validation? Why has Jyushimatsu been so normal this entire season? (Even taking the absurdity of the fishing situation into account, he just talks and acts like a normal guy most of the time now.) I like the concept of turning mundane scenarios absurd, but it’s just falling flat over and over again.

I’m continuing to watch this season no matter what because I’ve been following the show from the start and am attached to the characters, but the way they’ve been watering them all down recently is really taking a toll on the comedy.

I didn't miss the skit format, personally. This season's direction still suffers from everything being dragged out, and everyone feeling watered down, which affects every episode so far whether it's in skit format or whole-episode-long format.

I disagree with the earlier poster about Karamatsu's "entire identity is being performative for other people's validation." I could write a whole essay about why I disagree with that, but I'm too tired.

The quicker explanation anyway is that the second skit of the episode is more of a "it's them but it's not really them" skit. Some people describe these as "Alternate Universe" (AU) skits (I'm guilty of this), or the characters playing "roles" (similar to Osamu Tezuka's "star system"). I personally am not a big fan of most of these, though I have some exceptions. My biggest reason though is that I just don't really feel invested (again, the exceptions I have are when they were enjoyable/fun enough to make me not worry about that anyway, or when they decide to go all-out on the emotional effort like with "Iyami Alone in the Wind").

I still (personally) don't care much for these sort of skits, especially when they make the brothers watered-down as some sort of "everyman" stand-in, or when they are so close to their original selves that it makes me wish they just made it a "regular" skit (an example I can think of is the "Bartender Karamatsu" skit, where Karamatsu can't bear to water himself down to make "ordinary" drinks, even if it means frustrating the customers ... I enjoyed that skit, and that skit felt so "Karamatsu" to me that it made me wish the series just LET the brothers try out --and fail, if they "have" to-- various jobs, instead of revolving around "haha they don't do anything").

I think a big part of humour should be surprises. There's a sort of momentum involved as well. Somebody once pointed out how comedy and horror actually have some similarities when it comes to writing them ... they both involve surprises, and they have to have good pacing to work. In my opinion, this season isn't quite working.

I have so much I want to say, but I'm just too tired today.

Just because Osomatsu san airs late at night in Japan doesn't mean the episodes have to make you sleepy.

It really feels like the writers aren't even trying hard to come up with jokes and punchlines that are actually funny.

The "teach a man to fish" bit would probably be a good moral if they'd added something to it that would make me remember it in the future, but other than thinking, "Okay, this is kind of cute," there's nothing in this sketch that really leaves a mark on me.

I'm starting to really miss the older seasons.

Gotta give it props, much improved! No where near to par from past seasons, but it felt more "yup This is Osomatsu-san". I was genuinely scared they were gonna drag the "they're trying to rest but Choromatsu is restless" thing for the entire episode lol.

While improved, this episode still isn't Funny. It just didn't bore me to tears this time. This season seems genuinely terrified of going to any sort of extreme. Everyone is water downed and bland. All the scenarios are played very slow, mild, and safe... I think they're trying to be underwhelming on purpose, and it's not working. This season needs more crazy stupid, and stat!
