Episode 1

This is certainly a cute way to learn about minerals seeing that girls are into jewelry more so than guys are. Ruri is somebody who is into jewelry, and when she has a chance encounter with Nagi, a college student majoring in mineralogy, they go digging rocks in the river and other places, and Nagi shows just how knowledgeable she is about minerals. Pretty educational stuff here as Ruri has certainly found learning about rocks fun and interesting to the point where she's buying gear to go mining.

@SparkyBob I think the character designer does 18+ doujinshis. I need to check, but I think this is the same artist for the LN "There Is Also a Hole in the Student Organization!"

Wow I never knew I liked rocks so much!

I just couldn't look away for some reason

Seriously that animation was so beautiful it made me sad about all the other poorly animated crap I have sat through. This is the care I wish was put into Takamine-san ;_;

Really wish we had graduate students like that in any department when I went to school :(

@HOOfan_1 It looks like the translator was trying to be helpful. The graphic of the Japan map and the plates actually says 'North American Plate' at the top, with no mention of Okhotsk. Wikipedia says there's some disagreement if Okhotsk is actually a separate plate from North American.

No one-- AND THE ROCK MEANS 'NO ONE'!!!- that could convince me that this Anime's production team is fetish free xD

It's not just the thiccness... it's the freakin details of the thickness! Someone really knew where they wanted those sexy lumps:
When Nagi crosses her legs, there's this detailed lump on her Quads. During the booty shot, there was these detailed folds on the sides of the hips and near the crotch area. And the tiddies... by gawd, those tiddies goes beyond plus ultra! xD They can't lie to me... cuz it takes one to know one. xD

Kidding aside though. I love how educational it's been. Reminds me of Dagashi Kashi; It's also a mix of educational and ecchi but about the origin of Japanese sweets and snacks (Still wish that had a TV ending T-T).

Episode 2

And now, Ruri and Nagi go for the gold. Something this valuable wouldn't be so easy to find as what Nagi digs up is actually pyrite and while it looks like gold, it's actually quite common. Then they do down by the river to pan some gold managing to get a spec of placer's gold before a rainstorm forces them to stop for the day. While Ruri thinks all the gold washes away, she forgets that a new batch comes from upstream. Not to mention, there's a pothole where gold tends to gather, and they got quite a good amount of it. And that's a valuable lesson worth more than its weight in gold, pun intended.

I know I am being tricked into learning stuff but I don't care, this is great. Also that much gold has to be at least 10 ounces, that's like 30,000 dollars (gold is $3000+ per ounce)

They scaled back a bit on the horny angles this episode in favor of teaching us about placer mining, although a couple of shots of Ruri in water were beautifully (if tastefully) animated. Still soothing and enjoyable.

Having been a sexy grad student myself, though unfortunately not as impressive as Nagi, I like this a lot. I know the physics of crystal structures, but nothing about the geology; I particularly like how the first two episodes emphasize how the physics at different scales affects mineral deposits. Ruri Rocks is actually talking some good science. And though Ruri and Nagi are clearly unrealistically lucky in their finds, the show isn't being flashy with the science; an analogous show about physics wouldn't be able to resist making it into a science-fiction absurdity, or a pop-science Neil deGrasse Tyson cringefest. (Of course, an analogous show about physics would be a lot more boring, as we're primarily doing little inscrutable things in labs, writing long equations on paper, and messing with code.) This actually manages to talk about the little details rather lovingly. Scientists are always wary of popularizations of what they do, but this to me seems like something geologists would actually like.

@MenchiK1 Something's off about her feet there, though; she wouldn't be able to twerk thus without balancing better, or at least shifting her feet a little.

I mean that, standing as she is on that part of her feet next to her toes (I'm a physicist, not a doctor), and keeping the entirety of her feet motionless, she wouldn't be able to hold her balance moving around like that. You can try it yourself, you'll fall over.

And yes, I did just try to do that.

EDIT: I should say, though, that, not knowing anatomy or the kinetics of human motion, the way her breasts bounce does seem at least physically correct. (I'm afraid the motion is too quick to observe upon myself, and I know better than to describe what I do see.)

Just film yourself and post a video. I'm sure someone here can help you figure it out.

Also, yeah it was a joke feet don't work that way, but having to explain that obviously ruins it...
Plus for animation many times for something that won't appear on screen (like the scene will be zoomed in so you don't see below the knee) or something in the foreground will be added to obscure it (her feet will be behind something in the foreground) they don't bother animating those parts. Though in this case I think with what the focus is supposed to be they assume no one will be looking at the feet and so didn't bother properly animating them.

the gif seems to have disappeared now, but my head canon said she was propping her heals up on a step or box, but the box wasn't drawn so it wouldn't hide her feet.

@MenchiK1 Yeah, you're right, I did miss the sarcasm there, but because I was too absorbed in the physics, which happens sometimes. There's an episode of Keijo!!!!!!!! where one of the girls wins because both of them had fallen off the stage at the same time, but the one whose breasts were rotating at high angular velocity pushed the water level down so she hit the water second. But I'm pretty sure a falling, rotating sphere would actually lower the air pressure, causing the water to rise.

And yes, if she were somehow able to keep her feet anchored thus (e.g., by standing on a step) it'd make more sense. But I tend to think that including the more physical balancing motions rather than keeping her feet still would look sexier.

Episode 3

Ruri makes a visit to the college Ruri is studying at where she meets her colleague Yoko, and learns the ins and outs of mineralogy research as it is important to publish all findings on it, and she even got mentioned in it. And then she finds an old topographical map that appeared to be trash, but it's actually the key to discovering some minerals from a mine that was closed. While it no longer serves as a mine, there's still plenty of treasure to be discovered there, and there's a lot of fluorite that has manifested in the years since it closed. Ruri continues to learn more about rocks, and it's a good thing Yoko is quite knowledgeable about maps.

More amazing backgrounds and fun learning about rocks (honestly I have learned more about mineralogy in these 3 episodes than I have ever known) and another cute girl. Imari now just needs to learn how to grow her hair from her senpai and get on her diet. She will definitely need more cushioning if she is going to be everyone's landing pad.

It's tiny, but Ruri has a sapphire after collecting sand from under the bridge. This has her wanting to study stand from the river to uncover a giant sapphire from the source. Of course, examining all that sand requires a lot of time, but she found a way to do it more efficiently by using a magnet to filter out all the magnetic ores. Ruri sure does have a future in mineralogy seeing that she's quick to learn about stuff like this. She doesn't have her giant sapphire, but she does have a couple of small pieces and is determined to follow the river upstream to find it.

Hmmm didn't expect this to turn into a cooking show with Nagi baking brownies ;P

Anyway, that episode was kind of a break for the animators, and I can't believe no one had thought of that with magnets before (it was the first thing to pop into my head). Oh well still enjoyable, looks like it mainly served as a tease for the introduction of her classmates.

Episode 5

Ruri and company head out to the shore during a low tide, and find some beautiful agates and other rocks, and she finds a number of them by a big rock. Seeing that minerals are carried by the waves that this was the perfect opportunity for them. And while continuing her search for sapphire, Ruri finds what she believes is silver. But it turns out to be something rarer than that as based on the gravity test, it's about as dense as gold. To determine if it is really platinum or something else, the girls head upstream towards the source to see if they can find serpentinite. And once again, these girls continue to learn quite a lot about the world through searching for these minerals that can explain quite a lot seeing that those are the only things that have been there for the millions of years it too for the Earth to become what it is today.

Too bad not many girls realize how much more attractive intelligence makes them.

Darn looks like we missed a scene of Nagi and Ruri taking off their leggings :(

Nagi in shorts, nice.

This show continues to be the best of the season hands down.

As unrealistic as it is because if they really did find such a rich source of platinum and those other rare elements they'd all be rich LOL

Episode 6

The search for the sapphire deposit continues as they continue to to go upstream towards the source of the river and narrowing down the possible places. The fallen leaves pose a big problem, but Ruri comes up with the idea to study the sand around the Seiryuji Shrine. Just when it looked like they didn't find anything, Ruri looks at an old sample and realizes that the place to look is somewhere in the middle of the branches of the river. So after putting the pieces together, they set out for the site, and they hit the jackpot when Ruri falls into a hole, which is the place a boulder used to before it was pushed down the slope by the magma. So with that, the girls found their sapphire in spades, while learning a bit about the history of the shrine as it used to be located in that spot a long time ago.

Episode 7

A new girl is introduced in Shoko, one of Ruri's classmates whose curiosity with rocks and minerals came to be when she was a little kid. During a beach trip, Ruri finds something that turns out to just be sea glass, but even so it has its origins out in sea. The glass is likely something from a long time ago when glass was disposed of by burying it under the sand that eventually washed out to sea and is in the process of breaking down, something that takes centuries to happen. So after spending a day at the beach, they recover a ton of decades-old glass bottles that have a rainbow shine to them, all while Shoko's curiosity goes to the next level. Shoko made quite the impression there as another high schooler who is into rocks, and she's even more interested after meeting Nagi and Yoko.

And now, the girls follow the trail of zinc up the river that all started when Shoko found a piece of what turned out to be zincite, but dropped it and lost it in the river by accident. They trace the increasing zinc content upstream that leads them to an abandoned factory. And there, they find a bunch of zincite forming inside a tube, which is quite a rare discovery. Granted, this is manmade zincite that was the result of conditions made to grow it as naturally-grown zincite is quite rare since it requires specific conditions that are rare around the planet, but nevertheless they made a discovery worth its weight in gold.

Episode 9

Ruri and Nagi go searching for opals, but that didn't go anywhere. Then Ruri and Shoko go panning for gold after a rainstorm with Ruri explaining what she learned the last time she went panning for gold, but ends up with pyrite, while Shoko found a quartz. Then with Nagi all soaked, she changes into a maid outfit that Shoko gave her, which is nice but impractical for mining. After the rainstorm, the girls head off to the dam where Nagi explains that Japan doesn't flood as much as it used to in the past thanks to the dam, and that because it regulates water flow that a number of rocks pushed downstream are stopped by it. And that provides an opportunity to discover a giant pool of opals. That was great to see them finding a treasure trove of opals, all while Nagi would look great in all those other outfits.
