The first movie is now airing in theaters here in the U.S., so any discussions about it can be talked about here. I saw the sub a few hours ago, and I plan on seeing the dub this weekend with my brother.

The movie adapts from chapter 140 to about one-third of the way through chapter 157, and covers Shinobu's battle with Doma, Zenitsu vs. Kaigaku, and Giyu and Tanjiro vs. Akaza. So the series adaptation is now two-thirds through volume 18. I think the movie is as long as it is because it fleshes out the demons' backstories quite a bit. I guess the last 30 minutes alone focus on Akaza's.

It was exactly as you expect from Demon Slayer.
Nothing more, nothing less.
And it was flashy, as to be expected from Ufotable.
But as someone who doesn't care about the franchise as a whole the first movie was meh and I couldn't bring myself to care about anything that happened during the 2 and a half hour runtime.
Maybe if I watched past season 1 I might have felt it a little more, but that's what I get for only going to see it so my brother could make it back home safely.

I got to see this during the movie's second week, and I watched it in IMAX, which made for quite the experience as the difference is in the sound system. All those battles really stood out thanks to that. I can see why they decided to make this a movie, though I can expect it to be edited into a TV series just like with Mugen Train. The first part is the length of 8 episodes.

So with that, there are three major demons against the Upper Six (though for some reason that I'm not sure was explained in the manga, Gyokko doesn't have a replacement while Hatengu and Gyutaro do). Shinobu vs. Doma was quite a disturbing battle, while Zenitsu shows his growth in battling Kaigaku, and then they spent quite a lot of time explaining Akaza's background during his fight against Tanjiro and Giyu, and that was really something. So with that, two down, and three more Upper Ranks to go, then Muzan. But of course, the battle is only going to get tougher seeing that the Infinity Castle keeps on shifting.
