Girls being married young, might have been normal in fantasy world, which is why she want particularly bothered by it, while it's not really acceptable anymore in modern Japan, which is why the dude was kinda off put by an idea. I think they managed to portray it properly, but still it would be better if they would just removed the theme altogether. |

| But the series isn't shipping Sherry with Sugawara. He sent her to Japan to live with his parents until she's older and actually marrying her is for the future if she still wants to then. The context is important too. On a side note, the age of consent being lower in Japan is a misconception. Stop being misinformed. |

Good discussions y'all, glad this anime is still on people's minds. (Having seen Kingmakers game, I really want a second season!)
Personally, yes this was the only problematic part that didn't sit right with me. Because all the rape / torture / slavery were depicted as a "bad thing", and while unfair, most of JSDF kill count could be said to be in self defense or strategic.
I would even go as far as saying her arc regarding her taking shelter in the Jade Palace was totally fine. It's their final appearance, where he said something along the line of "keeping everything legal" that irked me. Implying he's currently in a relationship with her but will hold off on sexual stuff until she's of age. That's some drake shit, and legitimizes the idea of adults dating kids and "wait till they are legal".
