Represented with its score, and the fact this anime was ridiculed at the time, solely for its animation style. I actually think the rotoscoping helped to make the setting feel more realistic. I really can't believe people are so quick to judge over something like art style and not even give themselves a chance to enjoy something. I thought this show was fantastic.

For me it was the bad casting, shouldve picked actors that looked closer to the characters if youre gonna rotoscope them

Lots of people can't handle non-standard animation, they prefer anime having the same run-of-the-mill style all the time.

I love it, and not just the animation, but also the crazy plot and creepy atmosphere.

Cause it's a (very) edgy, slightly sexual and weird story, made for dramatic boys and girls, who're in their teens.

The way the community is, tho, we're unable to see the stuff for what it is or which demographic is targeted

-> Hence the hate.
It's not exclusive to this Show really. It's just the internet and people.

Very good manga, and I actually like the anime.

But I can see why someone would hate the art and animation.

The rotoscoping definitely added a layer of creepiness and an unsettled feeling to an already creepy story. I think it was a great move

I honestly don't think the animation is that bad, or bad at all to be honest. I believe animation is about the unexpected, and have to adapt ones vision to fully embrace the experience is part of the whole thing. Also, the cast choices were not that bad either, I know they don't look like kids but at least they look more japanese than in the manga. Not to mention how they were able to capture absolute tension during the original shootings, the direction was spot on. Overall I think the anime don't deserve the hate it gets at all.

There's a certain conclusion that can be drawn from your comment, considering that the characters look similar to real Japanese people.

that certain conclusion could be true. it most likely is. there is a reason why nearly everybody finds this anime ugly

It’s really sad how it failed financially, I thought it was an amazing adaptation. Sucks that we’ll probably never get a season 2 though, been planning on reading the manga for the longest time.

you cant name a single anime that experimented as risky as this one, in my eyes it worked great, plenty of people will disagree and thats fine. its still one of the most striking series ever, top 5 psychological drama anime of all time

Literally, an episode where he walks down a street for like 12 minutes with no dialogue, just to waste time.

Rotoscoping is judderry AF

And the girl he falls for, he never has the courage to be a man and admit it to her. The pain of the look on his face every time he is brainwashed by creepy b*tch makes me want to pull my hair out

I actually think the rotoscoping (rough or not) was an excellent call, since I can't see myself liking this anime the same if it had the stereotypical modern anime look. This show is underrated in my eyes too, though I thought the ending lacked some steam compared to the first half.

I remember watching this anime years ago, and at first, I didn’t really like the animation because it looked a bit odd. but somehow, that made it feel more real yk? I ended up finishing the manga after watching the anime, and I enjoyed both. the anime definitely nailed the eerie, creepy vibe, so I have no complaints
Crazy for Siyun Baek and Park Yunsu
