We all know that the story of Kara no Kyoukai takes place in Mifune City.
But, of course, given how realistic it seems, I'm thinking that Nasu and Takeuchi must have been inspired by a real place in Japan.
So could someone tell me where the real place is that serves as a model for Mifune CITY?
I think it's Tokyo, but since most of the shots aren't what you usually find in anime, it makes me doubt it..

Maybe it's just generic Japanese urban environment without a specific inspiration. Like how Atlanta and Vancouver are so generic (and cheap to film) they stand in for every city in North America.

well they never showed a full description of the city so you can assume that they took some elements from each major city in Japan. since you know Japan doesn't have many plains so they don't have lots of major big cities like Tokyo. So it's much easier to draw it using whatever elements you can catch.

From what i remember, the city and the different element gets almost no real description in the Light Novels (and i've read Cokesakto's translation...), so i'm fairly certain these visual details were all done only for the Movies, with probably Ufotable helping a lot of it. Overall, it's just a mix of many popular and distinct places in Japan. Someone made a video not too long ago : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lID9J-vbI1w
