I read in a news site this movie will focus on Kitarou’s birth, so I was thinking if maybe this could somehow become a getaway for someone like me who hasn’t experienced anything from this series, the poster looks sick and I’m always up for starting a new franchise.

I don't know, but anyway from what I know this movie is a prequel to the 2018 reboot. I would recommend you to watch the 2018 and the movie after that.

by the way don't try to binge, watch at a slow pace like 1 to 3 episodes a day. it's semi-episodic, there is a plot and 4 arcs (they are all good and each arc is better than the previous one) but the pacing is slow, if you try to binge you'll quickly get bored.

the 2018 is different from the others GeGeGe no Kitarou animes: it take place at our era.

Probably, in the same way that you could also watch Hakaba Kitaro without any prior knowledge whatsoever. It's just that there's a lot more of a cool factor to watching these sorts of things after seeing at least one of the "present day" series.

I'd recommend you start watching the 2018 series, and no matter where you are in it, once the movie comes out, watch that on the spot.

Also, maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I binged the 2018 series, that's the whole reason I became a Gegege no Kitaro fan. Different strokes for different folks.

Hakaba Kitaro is the original. Starting with its adaptation allowed me to see Mizuki's niche ideas evolve into something mainstream.

I actually watched it today.

As a story for watching this movie, the first episode of Graveyard Kitaro and one episode of the 6th series were mentioned on twitter, so I watched those yesterday before going to see the movie. So I think you will enjoy the movie more if you watch these two episodes before seeing the movie.

It seemed like a lot of people who came to see the movie had prior knowledge of the movie.

I also just watched it. My answer is, the more you watch the 2018 TV anime series the better. But don't worry if you can't watch the whole 97 episodes, I also watched only half of it before giving up.

Back from watching it. It takes place entirely before Hakaba Kitaro. I can tell you that much with ease.
