Weren't people praising the manga adaptation, saying it seemed to be following a different (better) path than the anime? But after flicking through the latest chapter, it seems to be identical. Does this mean the manga won't be the saving grace we expected it to be?

I haven't read more than the first chapter so i can't say very much. But here you actually get an explanation why Hanyuu dissapears and why Rika wants to go to St. lucia. I guess they are going to go more into details instead of a different path maybe?

I'm gonna wait untill it's finished anyways

Okay fair enough. I guess more detailed explanations of things could improve it even without changing the main storyline, as long as that goddamn dragonball-esque fight scene is removed lol. We shall see

On twitter Tomato, the manga artist, has talked how it will progressively diverge from the anime, splitting off towards a different ending.

The initial announcement also claimed it'd have different Answer Arcs.

And what you know. Chapter 4 part 2, covering the start of Satoko's loops, completely deviated from the anime.

WAIT REALLY?!
Is the manga really going in a different direction than the anime??

If yes, oh boy! Hopefully the flaws that Sotsu had will then be worked upon.

Well, we aren't even in the actual Sotsu content yet. The first three chapters of Meguri showed events following Satokowashi up to Satoko meeting Eua and those mostly followed the anime events, although covering many questions a viewer could have that the anime seemed to just ignore (From where did this St.Lucia dream come from? What happened to Hanyuu? How did Shion react? Did Satoko not even try to hang out with Rika? Was Rika not worried about her?).

The fourth chapter though started covering Satoko's loops, and rather than her just instantly going crazy and killing Rika in the first loop, we actually get a completely different scenario that's slowly breaking her down, with Satoko seeing that doesn't matter what choices she makes her future ends in tragedy by factors out of her control. Satoshi is also pretty important rather than just getting written off in one scene like in the anime.

Pretty promising, I'd say. Just from the slower breaking down and not just the instant killing.
I'll give it a read once everything is out.

Sotsu was the best Higurashi anime though. It will be surprising if anything tops it.

Update on this: The most recent upload (Neko-Akashi 2) got to the point where Rika figures out Satoko is behind the looping. (The scene where Satoko freaks out at the jack in the box and then shoots Rika in the head).

The last page says the next arc will start the original conclusion. It's called Akari Kurashi-hen (明暮らし編).

Minus some slower pacing, the manga has pretty much just stuck to the anime story so far, so this should be exciting.

The latest manga arc Akarigurashi seems to be different from the anime arc Kagurashi. So far, it feels more like Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi with Rika trying to figure out where Satoko hides her weapons and pretending to act like she's not suspicious of Satoko. I hope that it stays Higurashi-like instead of doing a DBZ-style fight or a Touhou fight with all the flying mikos.

Yeah it looks like they are having the same type of final argument/showdown, but it's actually grounded like Higurashi usually is. (I.e. using traps and guns around the school instead of....superpowers)

@Apratim Mangadex and the arc is pretty good so far. Much better than the Kagurashi arc.
