looking for shoujo anime adventure that is romantic. i know some of those shows, although being reverse harem, focus only on friendship without a main romantic couple and that usually frustrates me.

i'm looking for a show that will resemble Fushigi Yuugi in both story and romance.

current options that come to mind:
Harukanaru Toki no Naka de
Hakuouki
Neo Angelique Abyss
Hiiro no Kakera

which of them are romantic? preferably with a romantic ending.
also i'd be happy for more shows recommendations.

i think Ceres Celestial Legend might fit the bill perfectly for you. same mangaka i think?
i've seen it, but that was years ago

but if you want a truly great reverse, watch hana yori dango (boys over flowers)

Harukanaru Toki no Naka de
Hakuouki
Neo Angelique Abyss
Hiiro no Kakera

are they romantic?

Hakuouki is a favorite of mine cause I'm a big fan of the game. But since the anime is following Hijikata's route, there isn't much romance until the second season + lots of tragedy ahead. So it's best if you skip that one.

Anyway, you might wanna try Saiunkoku Monogatari?

Would agree.

Harukanaru Toki no Naka de actually resembles Fushigi alot. In fact it's a bad copy. But I don't think any guy is chosen in any of it's incarnations (there are a few). Sorry memory is a bit fuzzy - it's been a while!

Hakuouki is the only one where they actually hook up...but follows history if you know what I mean (I always liked that about Hakuoki actually - they didn't cop out/take the easy way out in that respect).

By the way right decision about Hiiro no Kakera :) Doesn't get any better, although it's obviously a 26 ep series that has been split into 2 13 ep seasons. I've watched a couple eps of the second season...and while S1 puts it at the lowest rung so it can only go up...it's still pretty bad.

thanks everyone!
i don't really connect with the character archetypes of Saiunkoku Monogatari and also the story seems like slice-of-life.

Hanasakeru Seishounen is indeed in my to watch list, hope it's good!

If you try reading some manga, you'll be really satisfied. There's plenty of steamy "Fushigi Yuugi-like" romance there that's not brought on screen.

True. Most shoujo/romance rarely get any anime adaptations. Even if they do, they're only up to 13-25 eps -- or usually adapted from otome games.

Anyway, I just finished reading Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden (FY prequel about Takiko, Genbu's priestess) and really loved it a lot. The heroine here is a stronger character who can actually fight for herself -- which makes her my favorite out of the four priestesses. So if ever you're in the mood for manga, try picking that up. The romance is really good + it's already complete.
