This has been bothering me for a long time. I was hoping the edolas arc would tell me why but I've gone past tenrou island and still no explanation to why Lily can change into human form. And why hes default at human form whilst all the other exceeds are in cat form even in edolas.

Did I miss it if it was explained? Or is it never explained?

Isn't it becouse he is special? He become general because he can make himself human size and have the power equal to it.

Its because he's older and he's body is more matured than happy and charley and even among the exceed he's pretty damn big and for some reason exceeds can't retain a human form for too long or maybe he was big because he had high proficiency for magic? Just guessing.

Eh, I don't think it's a big deal. Some Exceeds have a degree of magic mastery which probably includes temporary transformations; Samuel has the same magic as Lily.

Why can Charles see the future? Why can Makarov make himself a giant? Why can Gildarts accidentally pulverize a city? Dunno, m8

Ah so it hasnt been explained then.

Well I guess i'll just assume is a type of magic hes learnt until maybe we are shown the older exceeds can also transform into human form.

Just assume that it's just a natural mutation. There probably won't be any explanation.
