This post contains SPOILERS for episode 9, so if you haven't seen it yet, be aware.

This is just a small example of how frustratingly variable translations for Hellsing Ultimate can be.
A word or two can change the whole meaning of the text. Unfortunately, I don't speak Japanese so have no guaranteed way of knowing if the subtitles are correct or not.

Please take a look at these two clips and tell me which translation is the correct one?

1. http://youtu.be/PicMmln2Qbo

2. http://youtu.be/Wed-fk8Zcxc

In the second one, Alucard literally says to Walter:
That can't be true, right? What's funny is that the subbers of the latter clip actually boast of having the most accurate translation of the series and pooh pooh others like Call To Arms, etc.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. I've only uploaded these clips to YouTube because it was the most convenient way to show them as an example.

And if you can't add nothing useful to the topic, please refrain from unnecessary sarcasm.

I find your report to be purposefully.

Anyhow, I wasn't being sarcastic. I was quite serious. If you want good subs, don't watch on YouTube.

Edit: oh you uploaded from DLs.

What sub group then?

Keep in mind that no sub is entirely perfect and correct, some Japanese is difficult and even impossible to translate straight to English. Their language is just so weird at times.

That being said, the second video's subs seem more correct than the first. That line might have just been a mistake.

The sub group is Final 8. Actually they name DamagedGoodz as the source for the subs.

Hm, but I can't seem to find the part where they talk about having the most accurate translation.

Thank you.

Yes, I'm aware it can't be perfect, but like I said, sometimes the whole meaning of a sentence can be altered just by one or two ill-chosen words.

I searched up the sub group mentioned, and it seems they are quite reliable. It might've just been those few lines you mentioned, as the majority of users approve of DamagedGoodz. I can't say for sure, as I haven't really used their subs yet, but that's just FYI. And as Ella stated before, not all subs are completely accurate since the Japanese language is quite different from English.

Hopefully, you got the main gist of what was being said in the series though. Also, just for heads up, there are many sub groups out there that are inaccurate in translations, so you'll have the bear with it in the most part, but searching up which sub groups are most popular or accurate does help in finding better subs.

Some groups I rely on a lot include Horriblesubs, commie, coalgirls, and whynot.
Horriblesubs can be inaccurate sometimes, but it's enough to give you the main idea of what's being said. Commie and coalgirls are the same, maybe a tiny bit better. Whynot usually has good subs, imo.

That's how I came across the Final 8 subs, so I figured if the most approved ones are inaccurate, then which aren't? But I guess the majority of it must be good enough to receive highest votes.

Thanks and sorry for starting off on the wrong foot.
