Code Geass - well, some people say that Code Geass is similar to Death Note, both have strategic thinking and a genius teenager. Not sure if fights in CG can be called epic, depends on your tastes.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - has action, strategy and great characters.

Fate/Stay night - I didn't find a lot of strategy there but some fights were really great, gets better in second half.

Well I think I'll have to go with One Piece, I've seen a lot of epic fights but nothing tops a big OP showdown and the fights are actually quite strategic at times.

Fate/Zero. Man, the fights look so freaking beautiful it's not even funny. And all of the characters are smart too, so you do get strategy. Also seconding Code Geass.

I'm assuming with "strategic fights", you mean tactical battles?

Armored Trooper Votoms has some of the best mecha action I've ever seen, with actual tactical maneuvers rather than the mindless beamspamming we tend to get. Would probably be best to start with the main series, but taking the prequel Pailsen Files or the unrelated spinoff Armor Hunter Mellowlink first would work too. Not much in way of strategy though, it's all mostly on the tactical level.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex also have some pretty awesome action scenes, some of which show convincing tactical realism.

Jormungand is a bit of a mixed bag, it clearly tries to be somewhat realistic and tactical, but the transition from page to film leaves some pretty stupid looking scenes here and there. The action is still pretty cool though.

Cat Shit One, despite it's silly look, is actually pretty solid when it comes to the tactics.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team is probably the most tactically realistic Gundam series to date. Other than that, it's still Gundam, so expect plenty of plot armour and drama, even though it thankfully cuts a lot of the sillier tropes.

As for actual strategy, hardly any anime goes much into that, and you've already seen the one that's probably the best of the lot.
You could try Tytania and Nana Toshi Monogatari, though they both pale in comparison to LoGH, so you might as well watch the LoGH gaiden series and movies first.

Also, for a more "battle of wits" kind of thing, try Kaiji and Akagi.

Believe it or not, but all of Shikamaru's fights in Naruto/Shippuuden are quite strategic. Everyone else though is mostly just charge in with overpowered attacks so on and so on.

People are probably gonna rage at me or something but Guilty Crown has its moments. At the very least the fighting animation was good and music, if that matters, was great.

I don't remember much from the original but Hunter x Hunter (original + OVAs and 2011 version) might work. Gon, the main character, as well as the other characters, do use quite a bit of strategy when they fight and strategy overall through out the series such as in the beginning when taking the hunter test. Though not all the time.

Well, if you define strategy as strategy and not as tactic then it's have to be "Crest of the stars"... but surely strategic fights cannot be breathtaking, cause, well, they are divided in dozens of tactical fights, retreats, rebuilding resource bases, etc..

As mentioned before Code Geass has a lot of strategic fight.

And believe it or not so does Desert Punk, Kanta may not look like it but that horny midget is one hell of a strategist in combat.
