Wow, I watched none of these. My favorite genre is probably thriller/psychological.

Then I highly recommend Paranoia Agent to you. Very psychological plot there. Paprika would be a good one too. Of course if you really want to steer clear from sci-fi, then Perfect Blue is the way to go. The late Satoshi Kon was genius.

Please Save My Earth was pretty good.

I'm getting ready to start another sci-fi. So it's going to be Texhnolyze or Ergo Proxy --- can't make up my mind about which one. Any thoughts?

lol, I have Texhnolyze already downloaded, but I want to finish some of the anime that I'm currently watching before I start something new.

Uchuu no Stellvia and Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars - two series made by guy who now makes Pirates, so if you like slow tempo, good characters and setting those are for you (if you don't like than best to avoid as pacing here is slower than in Pirates)

Seikai no Monshou and rest of Seikai no Senki cycle - typical space operas, what I like here is setting. It's quite detailed, nice battles and ways to introduce world. Ok one can say that they talk to much but I like this series for it.

Galaxy Angel - great comedy :D it's simply insane. And I love it for this.

Simoun - best of all here. Very creative world, with neat base concept. Solid characters that develop and change through story. It's hard to say why it's great, but it is. And few people know it, like Stellvia and Shingu - which is shame :/

and I would also add Dennou Coil, Sora no Woto and Things That Are Precious To a Mage (known as Someday Dreamers but I'm rejecting that title) - none is pure s-f but also nice ones.

There is this one anime that managed to make me cry, laugh and sit anxiously in my chair as the show progressed.

I am talking of course about Steins;Gate, a true masterpiece!

watching Vandread right now - the concept is cool & it started off good, but it's just kind of fluffy/generic really - anyone else seen it? any thoughts on it? I do like the op & ed.

My favorite is still the original Dirty Pair. I wish it got more love. I have read that when it came out a lot of fans were into it. I found it online like 10 yrs ago. It was laser disc or vhs rip or something. The colors were amazing and so very 80s. I recently tried to watch an ep that was on youtube on my widescreen plasma. It looked so washed out & drab. It wasn't half as enjoyable as I remember. SO.... I played around with the contrast and brightness on my tv until I found settings that brought out the coloring I missed so much. It worked! I think a big problem people have with older anime is this dulling. But just by changing the settings a little I was able to get the "glow" back on the lasers, neon signs, & city lights. It made the experience soooo much better. the visuals are one thing I really love about DP orginal. In fact, here are 2 sample vids of the difference in the coloring I'm talking about.

Crap remaster on new tv:
(Everything is much brighter & consequently, much duller
the "GLOW" is gone!)

Oldschool intention:
(This bad quality but you can see the contrast is much greater
& the "GLOW" is much more in your face- it stands out & thus,
so do the characters & settings)

Just watched TO ova. It was all CG but done well. It's comprised of 2 stories. I liked the 2nd one a lot, but the 1st was still worth watching. They both have an oldschool feel to them.

I've added a couple of more to the list since I last posted.
Red Line, Steins;Gate, Gantz (has gore in it too), Code Geass, "Now and Then, Here and There". Also liked Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and the movie Char's Counterattack.
"Hokuto no Ken" (old style animation and martial arts), Wolf's Rain, Sunabouzu (comedy), Gurren Lagann

I'm watching Now and Then, Here and There. I like it.
I just finished Blue Submarine No. 6. I really like the story, though it was a bit sloppy. Overall it was okay. It was short @ 4 eps of ova.

Steins;Gate

Serial Experimentsl Lains I'm intending to watch.

Also FLCL does that count? But i'm in doubt if I hated or I loved. It's just the bizarrest thing i've ever watched.

FLCL has some sci-fi in it. I started Chaos;Head. I can't understand why everyone says it's one of the worst anime ever. I'm pleasantly surprised with it. Yea, it's not the best ever either, but it's holding my attention well. I'm guessing the end is terrible or it strayed too far from the original. I'll find out soon. xD

I think its because after how stiens gate blue their mind, they want more of it and they got none of that with the others.

Probably! I do hear that the novel or whatever it's based on is better. (but, that's what you always hear about everything lol) I haven't finished it yet, but I've liked the science fiction in it so far. It's fairly psychological.

Just watched Exper Zenon OVA (1991). Good oldschool sci-fi with time travel & a touch of romance. Loved it! 9/10 It's on youtube w/ eng subs right now if anyone's interested.
