What episode in the main series should I start watching this at? Or does it not matter, no spoilers in this (i.e. they have a new spell in this one, or a new ally)?

I'd start somewhere after they meet Tia (Tio). So... after episode 16?

Judging by the release date, this movie was probably released just after episode 70 (derived from the number of weeks between the start of the main series and the release date of this movie).

That's when I watched it. All of the main cast that appear in the movie have made their appearance in the main series by then.
