| What a weird episode. And no, I don't mean all the derpy faces in the first half, though they were noticeable. Poor Tekkin-sensei looked like a mutant at times. Nor do I mean nude Eru, though this might have been the first time we saw her totally topless, brief though it was. I honestly don't recall for sure. No, I think I found this one weird in premise execution. The whole episode is built on a cheat. We as the audience know this new teacher isn't really seducing Shunsuke, but the given excuse of her being here for a week to tutor "just one student" feels flimsy. Like it's there just to keep the plot going, which of course it is. It's probably a silly thing to complain about in a 40 year old series. Especially one in which teen suicide, teen smoking and other rather dark topics are played off like in this episode, but still. The idea of Eru being made jealous for once instead of Shunsuke has potential, and the scene of Shunsuke washing off her makeup was sweet, but this just didn't land for me. Even Danchou seemed more upright and upstanding than usual! Though I guess that's not a bad thing. Like I said, just a weird episode. Next time: From new female teacher to new female student! |
