Before reading and perhaps giving an answer, I will add this line to any post I make from now on, and it is the following, do not comment about my profile or anything related to it, because I will not only ignore but also perhaps block whoever does so, try to discuss only the subject of the topic, thank you very much for understanding.

Don't you think the characters in this anime find the minerals too quickly?

I know that the girls always go to the correct place where the minerals are, but even so, I don't need to be an expert to know that finding a specific mineral is not as simple as this anime shows us, because every episode they teach about the minerals with the greatest amount of detail that can fit in a 20-minute episode, so if it's to be more realistic, the characters should take more time to find the minerals.

For example, normally Ruri gets discouraged because she can't locate the specific ore she's looking for, then a few minutes pass and she finds the ore, I know this is just an anime and not a documentary like "in search of rare ores" but I would prefer it to be more realistic considering the vibe of the anime.

Was that also something that bothered you or did you not even think about it?

This is a very trivial detail since it doesn't interfere with my experience watching this anime, so apart from this criticism, I have nothing to complain about, in fact the animation is great!

I am not an expert on minerals by any means, but from what the series teaches us about them, none of their finding sounds too crazy. And if even some are, it is an anime, so I have no problem with a few embellishments here and there.

Also worth noting that their excavations take longer than what is shown.

Even if they were objectively finding what they’re searching for “too easily” (which I don’t really know if that’s the case or not), I don’t mind. I’m happy with how they allocate the time. I prefer learning about the many variations of minerals and their formations over seeing how long it takes to actually find them.

It's not like the minerals that they've searched for are extremely hard to find or restricted from commercial business. And they did put honest work in finding them

Help! I need somebody. Help! Not just anybody. Help! You know I need someone. Helpppppp!

I think a lot lies in knowing where to look and what to look for. An experienced rock hound wont waste time in an unproductive area. Im mostly able to suspend disbelief.

None of the minerals they've found so far have been very rare or difficult to find, nor have they found them easily. We've only been privvy to scenes in which the minerals are finally found - there are obvious time skips during which more tedious work takes place. We're mostly only seeing the "ah-ha" moments in between.

Minerology & geology are fairly accessible to amateurs, chemistry aside. This anime is realistic to the process & accessibility of the minerals covered so far.

I'm definitely not an expert, but this got me into a rabbit hole on YouTube and reddit.

The ones they found in the show tiny and are worth close to nothing, and you could end up with big ones in places known to have them:

I think it's about knowing where to look but also increased odds because it's an anime.

This is some serpentinite that was mentioned in the last episode as an example. I took this picture a few years ago at an exposed section of the Earth's mantle (The Tablelands in Newfoundland). You wouldn't find this just anywhere though. It's only located at specific locations. Just like you wouldn't find gold or sapphire at any random place.

@0wawarawanai This makes perfect sense, because I came to the conclusion that not all minerals will be found just by climbing a random mountain, if that were the case I would enter any forest that I randomly chose on Google maps and find gold and other precious stones to sell.

I mean it entirely depends on your area, but technically, yes. Also by Mineral we are not talking exclusively about Crystals, which are different. But you can find plenty of variants of Quartz, Mica, Feldspar, Serpentine, in a lot of common stones and even my themselves. If you know where to look and how to read rocks and walls that makes finding these a lot easier. I've been outback in Australia and have found plenty of Chalcopyrite on the ground as well.

Yes, and no.

I think for some more common minerals it is absolutely that easy, you just have to know where to look. And its also Japan, a country with high volcanic history so there is bound to be a lot of minerals and gems.
For some rarer stones and big deposits I would imagine a lot of it, while realistic, is probably a lot harder to find, and you wouldn't want a whole season of them just looking through sand or the woods. So the time it takes is probably shortened for the sake of fiction, but as far as I can tell, all of the things in this show are very real

(I am not an expert)

I am a geologist, so thought I’d chime in with some thoughts.

100%, finding minerals isn’t as easy as found in the show. Coming across PGE or even placier gold while panning as easily as they do in the show doesn’t really happen at all. But, given the scope of the show is operated from a geology graduate studies lab, I don’t find the discoveries of these gems all that out of place.

For example, before I had studied geology, no chance I could have come across gems similar to those found in the show. But once I found some publicly available resources (abandoned mine site locations, localities, geological maps etc), I’ve found plenty of gems just by guessing where they would be likely to form in a given region.

TLDR some basic education and some studying makes locating gemstone deposits significantly easier, which would certainly be possible given the resources found in a grad student’s lab (like the map they find while cleaning!)

Ruri the Rock isn't an isekai per se, but mineralogist otaku say it takes place in a "fantasy version" of Japan, where large crystals and nuggets of precious metals occur much more frequently and conspicuously than realistic.

I'm also a geologist, and someone else said - yes and no. It truly depends on location, or even country. Where I'm from, there are places where finding placer gold in river or quartz clusters is easy so much so, that they are tourist atractions. But in my own personal experience - no way, Ruri is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to lucky. But then again, it serves the show purpose to educate by also example.

Well, they did take a couple of episodes on the main saphire area. But yes, it can be hard. I have certainly struck out both times I've gone to an area near here known for diamonds. Luck & work both play a bigger part than the show suggests at time. I mean the platinum thing was INSANE. LOL

It all depends on your location. You have to remember that they're hunting for minerals, precious gems, and metals in Japan. That’s a great country to search for them because of its geology. Japan is situated near a very active geological zone surrounded by volcanoes and fault lines. That’s why their regions frequently experience earthquakes and tsunamis. Of course, you can't just walk outside and strike gold—no pun intended. However, if you have friends like Nagi and Imari, it makes things much easier. They know exactly where to look for the best finds. So, no, I don't think they find stuff too easily. Nagi and Imari are both experts in their fields, with Nagi being the more experienced. Ruri and Aoi are both in excellent hands—they're learning from the best, and I’m here for it! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

This doesn't look easy to me. It's probably way harder in real life.
