How popular is this in Japan?

First of all, this is not a question about being underrated or overrated, the question here is about how well the anime is being received in Japan, although I feel that in the West so far it is not being a big highlight and one of the biggest topics, but I wanted to know if its popularity is also like that in Japan since its opening has more than 1 million views on YouTube and most of the comments are Japanese and I heard that the Visual Novel is popular and well rated, maybe even more than the anime, besides that Shiroha Naruse was in 5th place of the most popular characters of Key in front of characters who already had their complete animes even without her arc being completed in the anime, losing only to Kyousuke Natsume, Kanade Tachibana, Nagisa Furukawa and Nao Tomori, but from what everything shows all this is merit of its VN but I do not know how the fame of the anime is there since the main success depends on Japan rather than global success, so I would love to know if the anime is much more popular because there than here (which isn't much), because I'm loving the anime and its characters and story, if anyone has any reliable source that proves the popularity of the anime I would appreciate it.

Why couldn’t you separate this paragraph into your thoughts, so it’s easier to understand.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I was in japan a month ago and I saw a hefty amount of posters and promotional material around akihabara. so I'd say pretty popular but nothing special. That said, I don't think you are going to be meeting a lot of people on this site that are from japan.

The visual novel is one of the highest selling in Japan, most stores that sell visual novels that I've seen on videos online have a hefty amount of merchandise and this was before the anime. So it's at least decently popular in a similar way to AIR being relatively unknown in the west despite being one of the most influential drama anime and being referenced a fair bit in some Japanese media (Wonderful Everyday chp1 being the most overt example). There's also the island Summer Pockets is based off, it has a bunch of places filled with stuff from the anime, hell I remember seeing random merch in some videos before I even knew what Summer Pockets was

Summer Pockets anime is actually very popular in Japan compared from the West. With how well received this series there and most are also fans from the Visual Novel plus the anime is always having a merchandise collab if you go to their official account. There are also numerous reviews from JP audiences as well for the anime compared outside.

Meanwhile for it to be well recognized outside of JP apart from long time Key fans it's all gonna depend on the adaptation after Shiroha's route is over as this is going to be the main story/route and why this series is well praised in the VN that is equivalent to Clannad's After Story and Little Buster's Refrain.
