How is this new adaptation going?I never watched the OG one. Is it a good idea to start with this remake or should I watch the OG?

If you want the anime to stick to the manga, then you should watch the remake. I personally like the remake very much, especially the modern animation. The voice acting is great, and the story is pretty damn good.
However, those stuck in nostalgy will probably tell you to watch the original

The old one is better in EVERY aspect. New one is like a generic shonen with shallow drama, horrible art, amateurish direction for really dumb modern audiences. And don't get me started with the music.

See both. The first season of both anime was good, but not extraordinary. And the OG one didn't follow the manga. Filler episodes were more in the first season of OG. You wouldn't find anything special other than some nostalgic OST. And you have to watch 96"s style animation which was not that great then. In this new adaptation, they are fully loyal to manga. And the filler scenes are very few. But this time, the director didn't do justice to the animation and also with OST. But I say it would be a good one for you because you didn't see the OG.
But yeah there will be a very good fight for 2nd season. Don't listen to the other people who are saying it is bad. They are wrong. 2nd season is going great. They have changed the director and this time they are doing really good work than the first season. It is very promising. You cant really expect God-level animation like Ufotable, mappa. Lindenfilms is doing really good work, it really surpasses my expectations this time. The difference from the OG one is that the OG one wanted to show Kenshin with emotion which makes you nostalgic and OST had played role making that anime super great with emotional building. But this time they are following manga, so they are showcasing kenshin as a heroic character. So this time the feelings are different. Yet it is still great.
So, you can watch both. But if you start the OG one, Dont expect that this one will be like the OG one.

You can begin with this version and later watch the original if you want. Every version have their good things.

The original anime fails as an adaptation, if you want to know the canon history just watch this one.

I personally like both for different reasons, in my opinion the original is so much better even with the old art style I think it looks better and there's a much deeper emotional connection to the characters than in the new one but the new one is faithful to the manga where the og has a ton of fillers. To me the music in the first one makes it 100% better in every way, it gives you such a different experience than with the remake, but I do like how the remake has no fillers

i probably wouldnt watch the new adaptation if i hadnt seen the OG, and i think the same applies for most people. So this says enough.

OG first and then the new one in the future when you feel like rewatching the series.

Or perhaps the other way, tho first impressions are important, and the OG is better at that

Both have great things. The music in the OG is SUPERB!! OPs, EDs, and even the soundtrack for every moment. The animation is one of the best of the 90s too. The fillers are fun and make you love the characters more.

But the remake is very loyal to the manga, not completely because they added one little thing or other, but veeeery good. After each episode I check my manga and I'm in awe.
