Best musician in Kessoku Band

I think the competition is mainly between Bocchi and Ryou. Bocchi is an extremely talented elite guitarist and without her social anxiety she is literally on God mode with her Guitar ( as we have seen in the iconic “Bocchi the Rokku” episode), and plus she writes the lyrics for Kessoku Band songs and if she ever tries she can sing pretty good too. Ryou on the other hand is also extremely good on bass, her technical skills with her instrument may not be on the same level as Bocchi and Kikkuri but she makes up for this disadvantage with her brilliant music composition and arrangement skills, and from the anime we know that she can play othe instruments too like Guitar,Piano and can also sing too.

Ryou used to write the songs and she has enough experience to calmly handle the band and even teach guitar even though her main instrument is the bass. She’s also really good as a bassist for somebody who’s just in high school.
Maybe this is just bias because I also play bass but still, I think it’s just between Bocchi and Ryou

Bocchi clears the rest of the band easy, and if you even try to debate this you're showing your lack of musical competence.

Not sure you can compare proficiency between different musical instruments but go off

Ikuyo is probably the least proficient, given she started last. Not to discredit her or anything since she's good enough to ad-lib while Hitori was coming up with a way to save her broken string, but given the timeline she's good enough, but not a standout

Nijika likely comes next, again she's a good drummer but in ch56~57 of the manga
but yea, she mostly just needed a pointer to flesh out her drumming

Honestly, I think it's hard to break the tie between, solo-in-the-closet Hitori and Ryou whenever she doesn't have to study for a test.

It's a bit easier to analyze Ryou's performance and her composing, since we got a direct comparison of her riffs and Kikuri's accompaniment during the roadside performance of あのバンド/that band. Ryou clearly likes to flaunt her Bass skill with the riffs she wrote while Kikuri's accompaniment showed proficiency, even without knowing the actual complex riffs Ryou wrote.

Hitori's case is a bit tricker since we don't get to see (hear) a full performance of her when she's alone in the closet, so we can only really go off what she's done during a live performance

Nijika is easily the best, ryo and bocchi’s parts are too mental and distasteful sometimes to work with the rest of the bands playing whereas nijika is brilliant at coordinating with the other instruments rhymically, kita is obviously not that good but gets credit as she sings and plays at the same time so her guitar parts are never that interesting and the vocals are good but not anything too special, ryo is probably better than bocchi mostly although seishun complex is a masterpiece on guitar

They’re all amazing in their own areas but the overall best would probably be ryo. She’s experienced, she plays a variety of instruments and she’s good at them and understands them, and because she understands those instruments she’s a fantastic composer. She knows the strengths and weaknesses of each member so she’s not scared to give Bocchi technically difficult parts or even Kita because she knows she’s a fast learner when dedicated. Nijika’s drumming goes hand in hand with the bass, and honestly she’s super underrated. She kills it on the drums every single song. Ryo knows how to set the foundation of the songs so each member can shine in their own way.

A reply above said Bocchi clears everyone and that that much is obvious, but I have to argue that that completely disregards other aspects of being a musician besides playing.

That said, Bocchi does give ryo a good run for her money cuz in the manga she’s been trying out composing herself and is growing to be a very well rounded, standout musician. I guess you could say she’s “naturally” talented, but she still has yet to really hone in on her strengths and hit her peak.

Bocchi is insanely talented for someone who's only played guitar for 3-4 years. Not to mention that she is self-taught. That sweep-picking solo in Never Forget is frankly way out of reach for anyone in real life with only 3 years of experience. Most people can't even play in tune during their 1st year of self-taught guitar.

Ryo might be the best musician in the sense that she is the band's main composer and has access to many different instruments, so she probably has more experience than Bocchi. But in terms of pure natural talent, Bocchi wins by far. The fact that Bocchi had already become a very popular Youtuber before she even joined Kessoku Band shouldn't be discounted either.

Dawg, what. In terms of raw instrumental, you can give it to Bocchi. Ryo has an argument because she’s more consistent, but “best” could be referred to their current peak, which Bocchi wins.
However, music production exists. Yes, Bocchi does write the lyrics, but Ryo has to grasp an understanding of said lyrics, combining both intellectual and musical intelligence. Mixing, recording, mastering, creating the composition are talents with a high ceiling, and Ryo’s production is quite high, considering they’re only teenagers.
You also have to consider that a bass player supports the drummers, guitarists, pianist (kessoku band doesn’t have), and other roles.
Bocchi’s guitar sets the pace of the band, and Ryo and the others have to adjust accordingly.
Also, Bocchi’s current peak isn’t far off of Ryo’s playing. The guitar has a rich sound that is more attractive than the bass, garnering more attention both in the audience of fans and the anime.

@Solacity Ryo is talented, but she isn't as gifted as Bocchi is. She also lacks Bocchi's work ethic. Real musicians know that natural talent only gets someone so far. Consistently showing up for the effort every day is what makes someone great-not the ability to throw an arrangement together in a pinch.
