Probably my favorite episode so far. The script is fairly boilerplate, and the plot just sort of peters out rather than really resolving, but Toshio Hirata's direction is excellent, with strong uses of framing, effective atmosphere, and a great use of quick cuts and flashes for shock effect. I also liked how they recorded the humans' voices to make them sound distant.
