I like how they didn't hold back with the violence what with all the blood spurst and chopped off limbs. Chinese was good too compared to the usual Engrish but maybe that's just because I don't speak Chinese. Overall it was good.

Nothing really much to say. Style over substance taken to heart in this one, not the worst thing I've ever watched anyway. 4/10

The fights in this show were so visually pleasing and well animated especially the last one between no name and the foreigner.

I feel like i’ve seen a few movies like this one lol but everything else besides the story was great. Final fight was great too, I like how everyone else was dead, the only thing that mattered at that point was surviving. Even though I think he died at the end ☹️

This movie reminded me of Sekiro though so I like it even more

Disappointing. I didn't care for the story or any of the characters (couldn't even remember anyone's name at the end) and most of the action wasn't that impressive.

Maybe my eyes have gotten too lazy with age now, but I found the fights to be too quick; basically a flash of a sword and limbs flying. I appreciate all the blood & gore but I'd like a little more substance. Although not as grand, the pilot film had it right in that regard (clear, recognizable action as well as variety of moves). And fuck whoever decided on the shaky cam and obscene amount motion blur effects, they should not be any visual industry.

I'm also biased against adding do-nothing kids in what are essentially adult matters (like Deadpool 2 and the Harley Quinn movie). They are rarely interesting themselves and they slow things down too much with uninteresting scenes or forced drama (like the horse riding and, to a lesser extent, the dog) to score cheap brownie points. I get that he's part of Nanashi's redemption and no offense to the VA, but they could've written Kotarou out for the better.

Overall, it was like Big Trouble in Little China but without the cheesy good fun, and pales in comparison to other action-focused stuff like Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

It has cool action and satisfying animation. The story is not the central focus and is mostly there just to lead in to action.

What a great masterpiece. The art and music were outstanding. Loved the story too. And they paced it perfectly. Not too short and not too long and boring.

Makes me wonder if No name survived in the end. That would be sad if he died. Anyone who knows?

Samurai slasher movie, I've seen a few of them but this one had an especially climactic ending. There is no magic here thankfully, the swordsmen's abilities are physical, the only cheats are a drug the Chinese are taking to dull pain and they have a medieval musket...
I like how the Japanese are portrayed as honorable and the Chinese as the bad ones that's funny.... but they are both equally ruthless. Therefore my western mind is baffled how one side is somehow bad when they both have the exact same reasoning: if you see someone suspicious, draw your sword. If he's the one you're looking for, slash him. So who is good, who is bad?
And the blond guy is just a mindless machine. At least this time he wasn't a samurai like in Meiji Gekken 1874, he's just a goon looking for a good fight.

The whole ritual thing with the huge clock, tower, fortifications and sacrificing a child so the Emperor can have immortality seemed really implausible.
Also, where was the Emperor? They didn't reveal any sign of ways to preserve Kotaru's blood after killing him... I suppose they were going to make "medicine" with it, but if they have the scientific understanding to make pain medication, explosives and guns, why would they think killing a child on top of a huge temple at a specific time would create immortality? And why go to the trouble of constructing a huge edifice in Japan, when they could have just taken him back to China? They said something about "if he were there they'd build it there" but that's also kind of implausible. Unless the real reason was they wanted to have a huge obstacle course for the final battle to take place- that makes more sense.

My only other complaints were that Kotaru seemed not to have any personality other than yelling at Nanashi constantly in the same exact voice.
It's a kind of cliche story with a Wandering Samurai who is the best of them all but anonymous and keeps a low profile; while the kid is just "orphan child with secretly prodigious background" like Dororo. It was produced really well, the music is good and really knows what it's doing.
The number of people who get slashed on screen must number in the many hundreds though. There's so much blood spurting out of necks I had to laugh at most of it until it was someone important (what happened to Jurota?)
There was no moral to this story it seemed; just wandering hero saves boy from Chinese baddies. I definitely was not bored.

Let me start off by saying this is DEFINITELY a dororo clone. Specifically the original 1969 version. The "orphan" trained to be a skilled samurai protecting the little "boy" who loves his pet dog I mean it's if anything HEAVILY inspired. Not to mention the whole final location was ripped directly out of one of the og dororo episodes.
With that being said it wasn't bad or anything just alright. 6/10
