I just watched a short 3 minute film which was released on noitaminA's 10th anniversary. That was back in 2014. The film is well..... about a girl and her chair. It's called Paulette's Chair and Suzume's entire plot is basically the girl and the chair. Also a small detail i noticed was that there was a scene in this short ONA which showed Paulette on her chair and them chasing a cat, which is again 99% of Suzume no Tojimari. What do you guys think?

Hm, looking up interviews on what inspired Suzume, I think those similarities are only a coincidence.

I will try to watch the short today for better comparison of the two, since I've never seen Paulette's Chair before.

Even if these plot points were taken from that film… I don’t think using these ideas to make the movie is copying. I mean it’s 3 minutes vs 2 hours. Maybe there’s some inspiration but definitely not copying

Watched the short just now, so I'm coming back with more input: Suzume is definitely not a copy of this short. There might have been some inspiration taken, but what those two are at core about and what role the chair plays in both both them is way too different!
So it's totally not a copy!

I recommend watching the short though, because it's really cute and heartwarming! 🌸

I just watched the video mentioned above, and I think it has nothing to do with the movie.

All similarities look coincidental, and who can guarantee that there aren't recorded a hundred similar short movies?

My problem with the movie is the use of doors because it is an element that King exploits so much in his novels.
