Forced myself to finish this series so i could see why this is considered to be the best anime of all the time, it was a 7 at max, all of the characters are forgettable and the story is kinda boring, this is one of those animes i can't see why people think it's remotely good, for example i dislike monster but i can see why some people enjoy it but this one i just cant, can anyone tell me why this anime is so liked?

I think the biggest highlight of Fullmetal Alchemist is its screenplay. It's very well-rounded, with everything (or almost everything) serving a purpose in the narrative, even the first city in the first episode has a role within the story. Usually, the beginning of an anime serves only to establish some concepts, but in Fullmetal, this beginning is already very important for the overall story. In addition to having a great cast of characters, the alchemy power system is also very cool and coherent and some other aspects. The only downside of Fullmetal that I can think is that some of the villains are not very good.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

The main character Edward knowing that the milfs towering over him are out of his league, is the most appealing part of fmab

It's not that you weren't getting the appeal, that 7/10 means there was stuff you liked about it, it's that taste is a thing and there are other people with different taste than you. Those people took the aspects of the show that you thought were good or didn't like, and ended up liking them a lot more than you did. You didn't watch the entire show and miss some grand design that everyone else was in on, they just had different taste than you.

I only watched some of the original and got to the dog scene which is apparently the most memed scene in the series. Show has not aged well

That's interesting because I enjoyed the original over Brotherhood. The dog scene makes me upset to this day

How the hell did it not "age" well especially since you did not even finish the show??. Like it is still well produced in quality compared to standard anime today, which are riddled with obvious dwindling quality as the episode count stacks up.
FMA and FMAB maybe not my favorite and top anime but, it's still regarded as a classic since people can't really point out a "newer substitute" that can tell a similar type of story better. (Examples are not my opinion but it is kinda out there, like Magical Shonen, since Fairy Tail is clowned then people will recommend you to watch either Magi or Black Clover instead)
In the case of FMA, Basically there is no known series that competes with FMA in its own game, and that is what makes it special.
It's more so boils down to it not being a person's cup of tea that makes them rate it not so high.

The appeal is the usual shonen tropes, soundtrack and animation. It's slightly overrated though.

Just answering before the modders close this post for "not encouraging discussion" or whatever.

The show is very ugly compared to the stuff released in the 2010s. It did not have a massive remaster like gundam seed did nor was it the best selling anine of the 2000s. Also people are severely overstating its legacy. You see almost no figures of Edward elric in akiba. Fma aired for a very short time and way too much has changed then.

Also magi was a massive flop and Sinbad cemented it failure.

Whether you like the "artstyle"more so depends on taste so, each on their own.
Like for my case I don't vibe with the "early 2000s moe", look that much but people be back then we're crazy for them.
Even when Ufotable first announced and released poster for DS showing the designs of Tanjiro and Nezoku and believe it or not most of the early comments I saw thinks they look ugly but look now, the character design and clothing design of ds sold a ton in the end.

Though to be honest you are the only person I knew who thought FMA character design looked ugly.

Those designs are the reason I watched Demon Slayer in the first place.

It's a WTF moment for me when I saw how people don't like them back then. Still can't phantom how they thought it was ugly.

FMA / FMAB was great for me firstly because the concept of alchemy is cool.

And back then, it was an anime that taught me a lot of heavy things not just purely happy-go-lucky shonen punch. It talks about the fragility of human life, the concept of sacrifice and loss. It was the rare moments in anime where "good people" can die. And then I really remember the poignant scene when Ed & Al growing up and was taught about the cycle of life.

So whatever drawings / animation taste aside, I just have very fond memories about it haha.

It has some of the best soundtracks too.

If you had to force yourself to finish a 7/10 (good) anime, than you should reconsider your rating system or probably find a new hobby.

What's so special about FMAB? almost nothing. This is the most boring, overrated 5/10 anime I've seen and to make it worse, the comedy is garbage, one of the worst comedies I've seen, period. Well, at least the King Bradley scenes are awesome but that's it.

I forced myself to finish this piece of crap just to see the hype surrounding it, big waste of time. I enjoyed FMA (2003) more, at least that one was mature and serious and didn't get me cringing with that goddamn "Edward is short" gag comedy and chibby faces which I absolutely fucking hated in FMAB.
