Some of you may have seen the previous topic or this tweet stating that the director of jujutsu kaisen Sunghoo park is leaving MAPPA and starting his own studio (https://twitter.com/_animehype/status/1504765096685613057?s=21) however this is not completely true and i thought i should just clear this up because so many people are mislead by this. Because the director we are talking about, never even worked at MAPPA, he was a just a freelancer. So while it is true that he is creating his own studio, he is not leaving MAPPA since he never worked there. This also means he might still do some projects for MAPPA like jujutsu kaisen season 2 since MAPPA often gets help from smaller studios.

Thanks for clearing that up.

If he starts his own studio then he won't work with mappa anymore, why would he? However he will definitely continue to be the director, so the chances are he'll just take his current team for next seasons of jjk. So basically nothing will change, apart from maybe the name of the studio in charge of it.

Why wouldn’t he at-least finish up the shows he doing he’ll get lots of money from doing jujutsu Kaisen s2 but it’ll also give spotlight to his studio that he has

I literally said he will continue it. It just won't be under mappa. It makes no sense for him to give attention to mappa, rather than his new formed studio.

another thing is that his studio was already created a year ago, while still continuing to work on the movie. so there shouldn't be any issues

He never left the studio, the fact is. He was never an employee to leave in first place.

There's no official clarification. He was the director of jujutsu kaisen 0, even tho he already had his studio to look over.

It might be, or might be not. Jujutsu kaisen won't end in season 2, he can continue working on it if he wants you. It's entirely dependent upto him, only time can tell.

This plays right into a rumor from a couple of weeks back, it was saying that a popular anime would have to suffer from a staff change, effectively lowering it's chances of getting a second season. Since JJK's season 2 was announced everybody thought this rumor was about Mushoku Tensei.

It's looking kind of unlikely to see Park reprise his role as director because there's been confirmation that he is working on a new anime project with his studio. https://twitter.com/Yann_Le_Gall/status/1505023995074461696

One of the main reasons for the incredible animation in the first season was the director and his connections to very talented freelancers.

well unless he got the money to buy jujutsu Kaisen from mappa and mappa wants to sell it I don’t think hes studio going to be able to take it over

Mappa does not own jjk, the production committee and mainly shueisha does, they have all the rights to it, mappa has onyl agreed to animate it, they're not the stakeholders.

Actually who was responsible for contacting most of the big shoots in S1 was Keisuke Seshimo, who is the animation productor of JJK, and he is still on board with JJK, so, even if Park were to go, he will find a better replacement, especially since a lot of big names are still there, and regarding some big name animators like Watanabe, Vercreeck (who already has said wanting to animate certain stuff in later seasons), Gosso ( who made some tweets recently implying he will keep with JJK) Arifumi Imai ( who already made tweets about wanting to work on S2) and many more freelancers who would want to work in JJK.

Not to mention JJK rn is the top priority for Mappa and the production comminte alongside CSM, so they know they cant mess things up.
