Firstly it’s not the first work since the arson, Dragon Maid season 2 is. In my opinion I never pay attention to animation, as long as the story is good I’ll watch it, on this case the series is okay. Not my favorite anime but it’s fun to watch.

violet evergarden the movie was aired in japan since 2020 meanwhile maid dragon s2 was aired in 2021

I am yet to see an anime by KyoAni where the animation is not good, even Dragon maid which is supposed to be a SOL had better animations than most of the Shounens out there.

The animation has gotten much worse. The TV show had highly detailed backgrounds but this one had really rough looking ones which even looked incomplete at times.

The character designs were reused to hell with Yurith looking exactly like Isabella from the side story movie and his friend looking exactly like Taylor from the side story movies as well.

Very letdown from a visual standpoint.

I have to agree .. sadly. Although I really like the story and made me cry but based on my previous experiences though the animation is still better than other shows’ it didn’t meet my expectations. But I should admit I still liked it so I ranked it 10/10 ^^ And maybe some time I’ll also re-watch it if I am in the mood. :)

The quality went downhill. Some of the visuals were dull and ugly af. Like more exaggerated, overused, or maybe inconsistent. I liked the quality of the tv series more than this and the movie could be better if they didn't overused those animations. Gave it a 9/10 because of that complaint. Still I found Your Name and A Silent Voice much better in terms of animation quality, story telling, and consistency.

It was a disappointing story, despite the same quality of animation.

From what I can remember, it was an slight improvement over the main series because of two factors. Resolution (TV series didn't feel like 1080p) and of course camera movement (I consider the first scene with that zoom in on the house a big direction improvement for example). Character design is on the same level, and that's not a bad thing. Storywise, it was as powerful as Your Name, but without the plot holes and with much more character depth which led to the emotional moments hit the viewer harder. Comparing to A Silent Voice, it was obviously much more consistent on what it was about and far less tiring, even with the same runtime. I can safely say all the complaints in here are just creating problems out of nothing and hence are invalid.
