I am playing into my own interpretation when I write this. They are children, naturally they are naive. They have yet to experience the world. Making money and working hard on Manga is not the world personally. So of course they have their own expectations. 99.9% of children are dumb and naive, we grow up through our own naivety though. If you are not a naive little dumbass growing up, how can you expect to grow and fail, to then succeed.
HOWEVER! I said I am using my own interpretation. What the MC promised at episode 1 I personally felt it set the two of them up quite well. They both have their own dreams, and while it is not expressed I personally believe they do not feel worthy of each other until they accomplish their dreams. Take it or leave it. People call it cringy and unrealistic, I agree on the unrealistic part as especially for their age I doubt either one would be willing to wait as they grew up. It does not mean it is impossible, it's just very unlikely.
You can see that not being together is very hard for both of them. Which I why I believe when she cried earlier, that you could see it was mentally weighing on her. I believe young people use the word love too much, typically it is lust. However in this case, I believe that they are actually in love. They cannot face that, until they feel worthy themselves. That is a very real feeling, because I have felt it myself in the past when it comes to love, especially since I have lived my life as a chronic under achiever, compared to my previous potential mates the overwhelming feeling of not being good enough coupled with the lack of understanding of why they chose me when there are so many other great people out there... it's depressing honestly.
I feel like people who have not been under those circumstance, people who have not let love slip away due to those feelings, simply do not understand those complex emotions. (for the record yes I am a masterful dumbass, but we live and learn kids). Not everyone is born into this world as a confident lady killing super star. I love this anime, because its so damn relatable.
Of course that's just a theory..... AN ANIME Theory. It's also how I chose to interpret the story, because any work of literature or art is always open for interpretation. You could have a completely different interpretation, there is nothing wrong with that. |
