The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (light novel)
| The main reason why I am asking is that I cannot find a legal streaming source for the show (I am using Crunchyroll, Amazon Prime plus Animax and Netflix) but have no problems when it comes to the movie, plus the reviews of the show that I have seen were lukewarm at best but the reviews for the movie were all positive. |

| You might be able to get the gist of things, but this is by no means a stand alone movie. You're going to miss out on a lot of details, i highly recommend watching the anime first. Watching the movie without having seen the anime first is just pointless in my opinion. |

| Others have already given you answers, so I'm just writing this for anyone else who has the same question. You can't skip the show. If you want to skip the Endless Eight, then you can skip the second season and just watch the first season (broadcast order, obviously) and then you can watch this film. Even if you do want to see the second season, I still would highly implore you watch the show in it's original broadcast order rather than the chronological order - at least for the first viewing. You'd be doing yourself a great disservice if you miss out on that experience, because that's honestly what made Haruhi a great show to begin with. This film should be watched after the series because it is the finale. If you can't legally stream it anywhere, and for some reason don't want to pirate it, then you should be able to buy it on Blu-ray. Even if the Blu-rays aren't sold in your country, you should be able to import from elsewhere. |
