| It's indeed pretty rare unfortunately :/ Yosuga no sora. The MC is not dense at all and don't watch it with other people in the room :^) Wait... wuuuuuuuuut?? Has multiple seasons too and it actually has great endings and doesn't end with a stupid kiss on the cheek or holding hands. |

| Another one I just remembered is Nana. It's a slice of life romance with a ton of good music, long but might be worth it for you. |

I was hoping this thread can be evergreen, with new titles added as they drop :) newer examples, not necessarily romance but possibly “romantic subtext”:
- Dangers in my Heart (both protagonists are thoughtful and introspective people)
- Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny-Sempai (eponymous rascal and sempai are devoted to each other)
- Just Because! (Every character is open with their feelings, big as they are)
- Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostels (Usa is devoted to Kawai and grows on her)
- Romantic Killer (inverts the “dense lead” trope)
- Wotakoi (workplace manga mostly about after they start dating—incredible)
- Recovery of a MMO Junkie (eponymous junkie has great Sq (“social quotient”))
Some really strong titles for this category currently airing:
- Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings In Russian could go this way
- Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines has only non-dense characters so far
- Days with my Stepsister so far has both leads very down to earth and in touch with their feelings
