Looking for an example of a series where the focus is a same-sex friendship/bond

Some examples:
Nanashi and Kotaro from Sword of the Stranger
Ginji and Ban from Getbackers
Kirika and Mirelle from Noir
Kotetsu and Barnaby from Tiger & Bunny

Non-romantic examples please! (if romance is just implied that's fine, but nothing explicitly romantic, so like utena the series might be ok but utena the movie would be out).

Just looking for a series with a pure bond, etc. Not into sports anime tho! (I know a lot of relationships like this are found in sports anime)

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu -- Reinhard & Kircheiss.
Rainbow -- All the boys become very close due to circumstances (juvenile detention).
Nana -- The two Nana's.
El Cazador de la Bruja -- Implied yuri feelings between the two mc's but no physicality.
Saki -- Saki & Nodoka. Also a couple of pairs on competing school teams (ie. Yumi & Momoko from Tsuruga Academy). Unfortunately this could fall under sports though I think the bonds between the pairs are a bit more heartwarming (for lack of a better word).
Simoun -- Close pairs are required to fly their aircraft but no physicality (though a light kiss is required before flying). It's...complicated to explain lol.
Kiddy Grade -- Éclair & Lumière. Hinted yuri nothing explicit.
Aria the Animation -- Bonds between trainee and trainer: Akari & Alicia; Alice & Athena.
Gai-Rai: Zero -- Yomi & Kagura.

I think Maria-sama ga Miteru may just apply (whereas other shoujo ai shows like Strawberry Panic, Sasameki Koto, Oniisama e, Aoi Hana, etc would not). The relationships in Maria-sama ga Miteru are called Class S which are close emotional bonds but not physical (ie. you'll see hugging and holding hands but no kissing; they may even say they love each other (in a fashion) but again only on an emotional level not physical). The only exception would be the character Satou Sei who is the only real lesbian in the show and then only in a flashback episode.

In the school there is a mentoring system called the "soeur system": a senpai chooses a "petite soeur" (French for little sister) kouhai becoming her mentor until the older girl graduates . Similarly, when a 1st year student becomes a 2nd year student she in turn can choose her own petite soeur to guide. It's best shown by this chart:

The currently-airing Flip Flappers
Blue Drop
SHIROBAKO
Mahou Shoujotai Arusu
Ghost Hound
Tsuritama
Sky Girls
Top wo Nerae (both 1 and 2)
Sarai-ya Goyou
Sakamichi no Apollon
Samurai Flamenco

The main characters in Uchuu Kyoudai are brothers rather than friends, but otherwise it fits.

Seen Mahou Shoujoutai Arusu, flip flappers, ghost hound, trsuritama, and saraiya goyou (series like saraiya goyou fit best I think)- sakamichi no apollo and samurai flamenco are on my watchlist - I've seen the new gunbuster, is it worth it watching the original as well? Shirobako seems too cutesy-moe for me.

The two Gunbuster stories are entirely separate from each other. Diebuster has references to Gunbuster, but that's all. I gave Gunbuster an 8 and Diebuster a 7.

Don't be confused by the drawing style of SHIROBAKO. It's a solid adult workplace story about people in the anime industry.

Ok, so the original is better? I'll check it out then!
