do you guys enjoy doing this, or has your experience in school of being forced to read a boring and seemingly endless textbook ruined it for you?
I started doing it voluntarily recently, and when I was able to find a book that wasn't biased or unnecessarily wordy, it was actually not a bad experience.

if you do like reading about the past, what subjects do you think are most entertaining to read about? war, music, art, language, your country, facebook, science, ancient civilizations, etc?
are there any specific people you like reading about, like tchaikovsky, if I'm just supplying a completely random example?
does anyone have any fun stories or facts to share?

I love history. It was one of my favorite subjects in high school. Plus, it's important to know.

I like to read about historical events but anything biographical bores me to death.

I love history. It was one of the courses I took at college. If I were to go to university, chances are I'd take a history-related course there as well.

It's not the most reputable source, but I've spent many an evening trawling through Wikipedia, reading up on various happenings.

Military history is typically the main one I look at, but I've looked at other topics like religious as well. Politics and policies can be interesting too, especially with the way that countries handle dealing with other countries.
It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether!

Not boring at all
Grew up watching history documentaries on national geographic/discovery channel
My mother also had lots of history books laying around.
And now I occasionally read articles about history.
It's always fascinating to see how people in past ages accomplished tasks that are taken for granted now because of technology.

School fucked me up, I practically don't read nothing tbh, and being forced to do something I dislike is not good. they should have tried to trick me or something.
But I'm trying to change that about me, one day I'm going to have a library just like the beast has on beauty and the beast. One of my dreams.

The only time I actually enjoy history is when it helps me understand ancient works of literature.

I LOVE History, it's my favorite subject. I like world history and I'm not a fan of focusing on my country's history because it's less interesting although I do study it nevertheless. I do like studying about civilizations and empires like Rome, Egypt, Ghana ,Ottoman empire, Holy Roman Empire, Amerindian civilizations and empires (Maya, Inca and Aztec) etc. I also like studying about the Renaissance , historical events in the early modern period such as the Age of Discovery, colonization of the Americas, Atlantic slave trade, Thirty Years war, French Revolution, Napoleonic wars, Haitian revolution , Scramble for Africa, Industrial revolution, Latin American wars of independence. For modern history I like World War 2 , Cold War , American civil rights movement, Cuban Revolution, Space race.

The Cold War to me is the most interesting historical topic because of it's influence on the current world. The Cold War is the reason why North and South Korea are 2 separate countries now, the Cold War is responsible for China being a dominant power now (during the Cold War China used the Soviet Union to become a military power and later America to become an economic power), the Cold War is responsible for the rise of global jihad and radical Islam in current times. America through operation cyclone used radical Islam and jihad as weapons against the Soviet Union and communism. The Cold War is what helped launch the space race. America and Russia tried to prove their superiority to each other by competing to reach space.

There isn't really anyone I like to read about specifically. I like the history of inventions too and like the history of television, movies, cartoons/anime, 20th century pop culture.

I absolutely loved history back in school.

The best parts were Wars-anything worth mentioning has either led/spawned from war. I'm also a big fan of ancient times concerning Greece, Egypt and Persia. Also Roman Empire is without a doubt my favorite country of all time.

I love reading about history casually. Even enjoyed most of the textbooks at school.

Generally, I'm interested in modern history and the culture of different countries, so not one country in particular. Ancient civilisations are pretty interesting too and remember reading Horrible Histories back when I was a kid. Usually I just browse random articles on Wikipedia rather than books, but there are few which are pretty good as-in not too wordy etc.
