An old man who shows up at a children's playground and tells the children ghost stories based on myths and urban legends of Japanese origin. The man tells the stories on the back of his bicycle using a traditional kamishibai (paper scroll) method. Since the Storyteller is the only character that links all seasons and stories, he is the only constant character in the whole series.
Although his past is never revealed and his true identity remains unknown, several episodes throughout the show imply that he is of paranormal origin and has knowledge of all the events told through his connection to the afterlife.
