Mayuri saw him kissing Sakura, but it is later revealed that they were just pretending to make Aizawa jealous.
After Mayuri finds out that the kiss wasn't real, Kaname reveals he knows that Mayuri and Aizawa were doing things behind his back. He apologises for making her feel uneasy and begs her to choose him. She does, but they eventually break up.
While he is still broken-hearted, his childhood friend drops by and cheers him up, and they start dating.
