Uchuusen Sagittarius
Friday, November 18th, 2016
Uchuusen Sagittarius, or Spaceship Sagittarius, is an Anime created in 1986 by Nippon Animation, and is based off an Italian comic created by Andrea Romoli.
Story:
This Anime has an incredible story, which is very deep and vast, and never ceases to amaze. Out of all the Anime I have seen thus far, this has to be one of the best. Despite being aimed towards children, Uchuusen Sagittarius deals with certain topics that North American kids cartoons would never attempt. From poverty and war, to raising a family and trying to make ends meet, this Anime is in a way, somewhat educational, and teaches valuable morals.
Art:
I think the art looks great. You wouldn't think that Uchuusen Sagittarius was an Anime at first glance, and perhaps this would be a great choice for those who aren't into typical Anime art styles so much. Despite all resembling animals, and characters refer to themselves as human.
Sound:
I really like the music in this Anime. Both the opening, "Stardust Boys," and the ending, "Dream Light-Years," are great, and are done by Hironobu Kageyama, who is famous for singing Anime theme songs.
Character:
Along with the storyline, this is where Uchuusen Sagittarius shines. This Anime contains probably the most interesting characters I've ever come across. Their struggles are so realistic, and it's easy to relate to them. This Anime contains among the best character development you'll find.
Enjoyment:
This is an incredibly enjoyable Anime. It made me smile, laugh and cry in all the right places. At times, I felt like I was right there with the Sagittarius crew, and they became my friends. It's a moment I wish could last forever, and I'll definitely watch this again someday.
Overall:
Overall, Uchuusen Sagittarius is among one of the best Anime ever created. Words cannot describe how much this Anime will touch you. If you're the type who usually avoids Anime that is geared towards children, please make Uchuusen Sagittarius an exception, because this Anime is truly breathtaking, and you certainly won't regret watching it.

Tokimeki Tonight
Saturday, February 27th, 2016
Tokimeki Tonight is a Shoujo Anime created in 1994 by Group TAC and Toho Company from the Manga, which was created by Koi Ikeno(Who is also the creator of Nurse Angel Ririka SOS).
Story:
The story is great, and at the time it came out, was somewhat unique, because while it's certainly not the first Romantic Comedy Anime, the main character, Ranze Etou, is the child of a vampire and a werewolf, which borders into the Supernatural genre.
Art:
Tokimeki Tonight has a pretty nice art style, with many distinctive looking characters. The animation, while not always perfect, is still well done for a TV budget.
Sound:
The music/sound effects in this Anime work very well, and the Opening/Ending themes are also pretty good.
Character:
The characters were very interesting and dynamic, and even serious characters had a comedic side to them. While not all characters in this Anime develop much, the main character Ranze, and her love interest, Makabe Shun certainly do develop over the course of the series.
Enjoyment:
This series has many funny and heartfelt moments, and I enjoyed it immensely. It became even more interesting and enjoyable farther in.
Overall:
Overall, this was a great Anime, and I'm glad I watched it. If you're looking for an old school rom-com that's a little more unique, Tokimeki Tonight is certainly one to check out.

Akazukin Chacha
Sunday, November 15th, 2015
Akazukin Chacha is a Shoujo Anime created by Studio Gallop and NAS in 1994.
Story:
I really enjoyed the story, and it was very easy to become immersed into. There are many elements from other fairy tales, all with a comedy flavor to it.
Art:
I really liked the artstyle, and the animation was really well done. The characters all wore very interesting clothing, which made them very distinctive. The Magician's robes were really cool, especially Shiine's.
Sound:
The music and sound effects were great, and worked very well in the Anime. The sound used to summon something with magic is forever ingrained into my head, and so are the opening and ending themes.
Character:
Akazukin Chacha has great characters. Chacha was probably my favorite, but I loved the other characters as well. The characters are very unique, and are capable of various emotions. Seeing Chacha transform into the Magical Princess was so cool.
Enjoyment:
I really enjoyed Akazukin Chacha. It has to be one of the funniest Anime I've ever seen, and it really makes you smile. I only wish it didn't have to end, because the world of Akazukin Chacha truly is a place you could imagine yourself living in.
Overall:
Overall, Akazukin Chacha is one of the best Anime I've ever seen. It's so light hearted, and incredibly funny, and is great for all ages. If you're looking for a great Anime that will make you laugh and smile, Akazukin Chacha is the one.

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro
Friday, August 28th, 2015
The Castle of Cagliostro is a Lupin III movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki which came out in 1979.
Story:
I thought the story was great, and it was very interesting. The setting worked very well.
Art:
I really enjoyed the art style, and the animation was great, especially the car chase scene. The atmosphere and use of color was incredible.
Sound:
I really enjoyed the soundtrack. The voices were also really nice. I should mention that I watched this with the 1992 Streamline dub, which is supposedly less accurate than the 2000 Manga Entertainment dub. In the Streamline dub, Lupin is referred to as "Wolf" due to copyright issues, and while that was a bit annoying, I still think that the voice actors did a great job.
Character:
The characters were very interesting, and all had unique personalities. I found Lupin the most interesting of all.
Enjoyment:
This film was very enjoyable. There's lots of action and suspense, and I was thoroughly entertained the entire way through.
Overall:
Overall, The Castle of Cagliostro was a very enjoyable movie that kept me thoroughly entertained. The movie seemed a lot longer than it was, but in a good way. They fit a lot of great stuff into the 100 minute length. I highly recommend this film to everyone, whether they're an Anime fan or not. This is my first exposure to Lupin III, and I'll definitely be checking out more of the Lupin franchise in the future.

Nozomi Witches
Sunday, July 12th, 2015
Nozomi Witches is a 3-episode Boxing OVA created in 1992. While the original Manga(Which ran from 1986 to 1996) was created by Toshio Nobe, the OVA character designs were done by Mitsuru Adachi, who is most famous for the Baseball Manga/Anime "Touch."
Story:
The story revolves around a 16 year old boy named Ryoutarou Shiba, who recently moved into a new apartment. He meets a girl next door named Nozomi Egawa, who wants him to become a boxer, even though he has no interest in boxing. Nozomi fills out a resume at their high school boxing club without Ryoutarous' knowing, and Ryoutarou gets dragged into the world of boxing.
Art:
I really liked the art style. This is the first time I've watched an Anime with Mitsuru Adachi's character designs, and I must say, I liked them more than I thought I would.
Sound:
This OVA has an excellent soundtrack. The opening theme, "Flash of Thunderlight" pays homage to the song "Eye of the Tiger" with its opening guitar riff. I'd even go as far to say that I like Flash of Thunderlight better than Eye of the Tiger.
Character:
The 2 main characters, Ryoutarou and Nozomi were really interesting. Nozomi is very attractive, and I was surprised at how much character development they were able to squeeze into 3 episodes regarding Ryoutarou.
Enjoyment:
Like the Rocky movies, you don't have to be into boxing to enjoy Nozomi Witches. I really enjoyed watching the boxing matches.
Overall:
Overall, this was a great 3-episode OVA. It has good pacing, great music, exciting boxing matches, and even a little bit of romance. This OVA is really obscure in the western world, but it definitely deserves to be more well known. Check it out today!
Score: 9/10
Bubblegum Crisis
Wednesday, June 24th, 2015
Bubblegum Crisis is a cyberpunk Anime created by AIC, Artmic, and Youmex in 1987. It features character designs by the great Kenichi Sonoda, and Satoshi Urushihara also did some character designs as well.
Story:
The story revolves around four girls: Priss, Sylia, Linna, and Nene. Together, they are the "Knight Sabers," and with their special power suits, they take out the "Boomers," which are biomechanical creatures created by the company called "Genom."
Art:
The art style and animation in Bubblegum Crisis is incredible. I've always been a big fan of Kenichi Sonoda ever since I first saw "Gall Force: Eternal Story" roughly five years ago. The characters are very well designed, and the girls have realistic proportions, which I like very much.
Sound:
Bubblegum Crisis has one of the best soundtracks of any OVA ever released, and is highly regarded by its fans. The English voice actors also did a great job singing English language versions of the songs. This is an Anime soundtrack you must purchase.
Character:
The Knight Sabers are very dynamic, and it's exciting to see them react to certain things. Priss for example, is definitely the most badass of the girls, but she's still human, and has feelings.
Enjoyment:
I really enjoyed Bubblegum Crisis. There is lots of action, and there's never a dull moment.
Overall:
Overall, this is clearly one of the best cyberpunk Anime of all time. Every cyberpunk fan, and every old school Anime fan needs to watch this, as it's one of the fastest, action packed rides you'll ever be taken on.
Score: 10/10
Futari wa Precure
Friday, April 3rd, 2015
Futari wa Precure is a Magical Girl Anime created by Toei in 2004. It is the first of many Precure Anime, which is now a huge franchise, which is highly successful in Japan.
Story:
Futari wa Precure revolves around two girls, named Misumi Nagisa & Yukishiro Honoka. Their lives change one day when two creatures from the "Garden of Light" named Mipple & Mepple arrive, and Nagisa & Honoka become "Pretty Cure." Together, these two girls must fight the forces of evil from a place called the "Dark Zone."
Art:
The art style in this Anime is very nice, and pleasant to look at. As an old school Anime fan, there are very little post-2000 Anime art styles that I like, but Futari wa Precures' art style is one of those that are an exception. It simply looks fantastic.
Sound:
The music and sound effects in Futari wa Precure are great. I love the Opening and Ending themes, and also the other music tracks played in this Anime. The OST is definitely worthy of picking up. Also, the sound effects are great, and really mix well with what goes on in the show.
Character:
The characters in this Anime are very interesting. Nagisa & Honoka are quite different from each other when it comes to hobbies, and their friends are also very interesting. Mipple & Mepple are also very fun to watch, and they make a big impact. The villains in this Anime are also some of the most interesting I've seen, and have interesting personalities.
Enjoyment:
I enjoyed Futari wa Precure very much. There was never a dull moment, and for a 49 episode series, it has virtually no filler at all. Every episode was very interesting and fun to watch.
Overall:
Overall, Futari wa Precure is something that every Magical Girl Anime fan needs to see. I also recommend it to old school Anime fans(despite it not being an old school series at the time this review was written,) because it is very difficult for an old school Anime fan like myself to find a post-2000 Anime that I am willing to watch, but Futari wa Precure is one that all old school fans need to give a chance. If you like this as much as I, then I recommend checking out the sequel, "Futari wa Precure: Max Heart," which I will be watching in the near future.

Cyborg 009: Kaijuu Sensou(1967 Movie)
Thursday, February 12th, 2015
Cyborg 009: Kaijuu Sensou is a movie created in 1967, which is based on the original 1964 Manga created by Shotaro Ishinomori, and is the sequel to the first Cyborg 009 movie which came out a year earlier.
Story:
After hearing news about a giant mechanized dinosaur using ultrasound waves to destroy ships, planes, and other things, the 9 cyborgs gather together once again to defeat the revived evil known as "Black Ghost."
Art:
Like the 1966 movie, the sequel features the same great art style and animation that I love. Once again, you get to see cool laser blasts and giant explosions.
Sound:
Once again, you get to hear the great Cyborg 009 theme, and the cool sound effects of laser blasts and gunfire. The sound is of course, very fitting for this type of movie.
Character:
This movie features the same great 9 cyborgs that Cyborg 009 fans know, and also a blond haired girl named "Helena." She is a very interesting character, and she gets even more interesting later in the movie.
Enjoyment:
I enjoyed this movie very much, just as much as the first Cyborg 009 movie. This movie has plenty of exciting action, and if you like action and sci-fi as much as I, you'll enjoy it too.
Overall:
Overall, if you love this genre of Anime, check it out, especially if you enjoyed the first movie. If you haven't seen the first movie yet, be sure to watch that one first. I can't decide which movie I like better, this one or the first one, so I'll consider them equal to each other.
Score: 9/10
Nurse Angel Ririka SOS
Saturday, January 24th, 2015
"Nurse Angel Ririka SOS" is a 35 episode Magical Girl TV series Created by Studio Gallop and NAS in 1995, and based off the Manga created by Ikeno Koi, who is also known for the Manga "Tokimeki Tonight."
Story:
The story is somewhat similar to many Magical Girl Anime of its time, but is also quite unique as well. Moriya Ririka is the legendary "Nurse Angel" who is responsible for saving the world from the evil "Dark Joker."
Art:
The art style and animation in Nurse Angel Ririka SOS is very good for a TV series, and is very nice to look at. Never once did I grow tired of seeing Ririka transform into Nurse Angel.
Sound:
The music and sound effects in this Anime are top notch, with an OST that is worthy of purchasing in physical form. Virtually every music track was very nice to hear, so much that I started lip-syncing the opening/ending music.
Character:
Nurse Angel Ririka SOS has a nice range of characters that are easily recognizable, and relatable. The characters all develop very nicely, and it's easy be become attached to them.
Enjoyment:
Nurse Angel Ririka SOS was one of the most enjoyable Anime I have ever seen in my life so far. It evoked emotions I never knew I had, and sometimes I wish it could've went on forever. This Anime also marks the first time I ever cried while watching an Anime.
Overall:
Overall, Nurse Angel Ririka SOS is one of the best Magical Girl Anime there is. You'll smile, laugh, and cry, and you'll never, ever forget it. This is a "MUST WATCH" for everyone.
Score: 10/10
Cyborg 009(1966 Movie)
Saturday, December 27th, 2014
Cyborg 009 is a movie created in 1966, which is based on the original 1964 Manga created by Shotaro Ishinomori. This Anime is action packed, contains many Sci-Fi elements, and is non-stop excitement!
Story:
Cyborg 009 is about 9 people, all from different parts of the globe, who have been taken hostage by an evil corporation known as "Black Ghost." They were given cybernetic implants to give them superhuman powers, so they can do Black Ghosts' bidding. The 9, now cyborgs, each with a designated number following 00, do not wish to be used for war, and escape Black Ghosts' clutches.
Art:
I really like the art style of Cyborg 009. The cyborgs' uniforms are really cool, and are instantly recognizable. The animation is really well done, and is a treat to watch, from the laser gun blasts, to the gigantic explosions.
Sound:
Cyborg 009 has a great, fitting soundtrack. The main theme is timeless and excellent, and I never grow tired of it. The sound effects are also well done, and give you a sense of excitement.
Character:
Cyborg 009 has a great lineup of main characters. The 9 cyborgs all have unique personalities, special abilities, and very interesting backgrounds. They are all equally important, and all serve their purpose wonderfully.
Enjoyment:
There was never a dull moment in this movie. Watching the cyborgs make use of their unique abilities was really fun and exciting. From the ground, to the air, to the sea, the cyborgs fight Black Ghost in every environment imaginable.
Overall:
Overall, Cyborg 009 is a lot of fun. Anybody who likes an action/adventure packed Anime will be well entertained. There's no blood, nudity, or anything really inappropriate(aside from some mild profanity in the fansub), and can be enjoyed by virtually the whole family. Every old school Anime fan needs to see this wonderful gem.
Score: 9/10
Mujigen Hunter Fandora
Sunday, July 27th, 2014
Dream Dimension Hunter Fandora is an Anime created by Go Nagai which is relatively unknown outside Japan, with Italy being the only other place it was released. An English dub was made, with plans for people in North America to order it from Japan by mail, but sadly, this never happened.
This is a sci-fi Anime that is packed with plenty of action scenes, and also contains some emotional moments as well.
Story:
The story begins right in the middle of an action sequence, with the plot filling itself in shortly afterward. Taking place in space, we see the main characters go to a few different planets, which adds to the adventure aspect of this Anime.
Art:
I really love the art style in this Anime. From the landscapes, to the ships, to Fandora's blue, flowing hair, this Anime is well animated. The fighting scenes will get you all hyped up, and are very fun to watch.
Sound:
The soundtrack in Fandora is great. It's very fun to listen to, even enough that I may consider buying the vinyl soundtrack. The sound effects are also very nice, and work very well, especially when there's a lot of action going on.
Character:
The characters in this Anime were very interesting. While Fandora & Que are the only two main protagonists, they are very likable. Considering this is only a 3-part OVA, The character development is also pretty good, and near the end, many interesting facts about Fandora & Que are revealed.
Enjoyment:
If you like sci-fi, action, and adventure, you'll love this Anime. For me, there was never a dull moment, and I was thoroughly entertained the whole way through.
Overall:
Overall, Dream Dimension Fandora is a great Anime. It balances everything out just right. There's no sex, the nudity is quite brief, and while there is plenty of violence during the action scenes, it is relatively tame in comparison to many of Go Nagai's other works, but that's fine with me.
I give Fandora a 9 out of 10, because I really enjoyed everything about it, and I spent an hour or so with a huge grin on my face after watching it. It's one of the best "Girls with Swords" Anime out there, and I highly recommend it.
Noein: Mou Hitori no Kimi e
Saturday, July 26th, 2014
This is my very first review.
Noein is an Anime that heavily focuses on time travel & parallel universes. It has various characters, all with unique personalities. This Anime gets off to a slow start, but begins to make more sense about halfway through. Noein is definitely thought provoking, and can also be quite emotional at times.
Story:
The story can be a bit difficult to follow at first, but begins to make a little more sense with every episode that passes, and all questions eventually become answered near the end. As mentioned above, Noein can be rather emotional, with both elements of happiness and sorrow.
Art:
The art style in this Anime is quite interesting. The characters faces clearly display their emotions, and what actions they may be about to take. Certain scenes, such as some fighting scenes, show some impressive fluid animation, and an interesting, unique artistic style that you'll definitely remember.
Sound:
The sound/music definitely suited the Anime. The music captures every intense moment, especially when something major is about to occur. The only gripe I could have is that in a couple of scenes, the music drowns out the dialogue a bit, but maybe it's just my TV speakers.
Character:
Noein contains a very healthy dose of character development. You will see, and learn various important things about nearly every character as the story progresses.
Enjoyment:
I found Noein quite enjoyable. I own the DVD box set, and my Mom and I would watch five episodes every night, and we were always excited for the following night, because we were anxious to find out what would happen next.
Overall:
Overall, I give Noein an 8. While it wasn't one of the absolute best things I've seen, it was still very enjoyable, and at 24 episodes, I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in watching it.
