Anime-Related Laser Cuts
Had some time in between work, so I thought "might as well."
The intent here was to try and make some cuts to be key chains. I was debating between using acrylic and polycarbonate, but I eventually went with polycarbonate for this cut since from what I read, it's more shatter resistant despite being more susceptible to scratches. I was hoping to avoid cracks and snapping when in use or from accidental drops, but I'll probably try acrylic next.
I pulled the images off of Google and extracted the lines in Photoshop using various filters. I then opened it in Illustrator to create the vector lines for later modification and formating in AutoCAD before exporting to cut as a DXF file. Again, were cut using a polycarbonate sheet, and while it came out a lot cleaner than I expected, the laser burned it quite a bit. The laser actually set the sheet on fire throughout the whole job, but luckily the only thing that was truly burnt was the protective plastic adhered over the polycarbonate sheet. Though, some of the finer cuts and details actually did burn the polycarbonate in some spots, which can be seen in The iDOLM@STER cut.
Another thing I noticed is the slight static charge it has, where it attracts dust and particles like a magnet. Somewhat annoying, but manageable.
