sometimes it's incredibly funny and feels like a love letter to anime and otaku culture; sometimes, the characters are so dumb is feels like it's making fun of its audience. i liked when it shittalked rezero, when it shittalks the industry, but there aren't enough of these types of shows where i can forgive the terrible animation and terrible stereotypes. i wanted it to have sold a million copies, but i wouldn't have bought one myself.

if you had the density of this show with the realism of genshiken, the cynism of genshiken, it could've been my favorite anime. the way seitokai no ichizon came close, and lucky comes close, and monogatari embraces.

i'm the audience for this shit, alright! i watched Angel Densetsu! i wanted to love this so much more than i did

none of those feature spoilers for the main plot of the show. if anyone's unsure on whether they'd like to invest their time on conan, or simply don't want to and just want some really great murder mysteries, that's my recommendation list. after that point, most of the best episodes are inseparable from the main plot. overall mystery writing also gets worse around that time

most of the ones listed aren't filler episodes, but i would recommend watching those just because they bring so much variety to the show. those are mostly episodes with very good murder mysteries, but there are even episodes in the show worth watching for their drama writing, plus fun character introductions/interactions. normal episodes mostly follow the same formula (which is equally impressive), but you never know what you'll get from the filler, and they're nice as a "break" (even if their quality is really inconsistent -- alright, 400 episodes in and some fillers should absolutely be skipped, though i'm watching 'em -- 430 episodes in, alright, i give up, i'll skip the ones with bad scores, i.e. almost all of them till i catch up).

i love this, but some story decisions make my head hurt. some ~15 episodes were painful to watch

it's very close to a seven, it's just the humor and some characters even more dumb and annoying than they were in the manga that bother me. but it's full of love, the op is great, and there are some moments of genuine brilliancy. one episode is atrocious, also. more seasons should make me like this better
