I don't know why, but this took me two years to finish. But I'll be honest, I found this to be a flawed gem. My main problem lies within the fact that it's episodic. There's nothing wrong with episodic series, but if you want to play with the "feels", one episode is more or less never enough for me. I need time, I want to know the characters, because if I don't I won't care about them. Then there's no reason for me to care about their suffering and problems. However, this is a calming to watch and I really enjoy slow paced stuff. So for that reason alone, I can recommend it. |

I'll be honest, I want to like this anime. The setting is entertaining enough, the idea is great but the execution just falls flat for me personally.
Every dialogue makes me cringe, especially when the main cast is in full focus (see, bar scene from episode four). It just doesn't feel natural, rather it feels like pandering... For some damn reason. But at least they get some things right. Working with creative people is hell, trust me. And from what I gather, the creators seem to agree. We're all egocentric scumbags fighting to shine each and every time we get the chance and we mope around when we're not in spotlight. The banter in the office is also refreshing, see above. |

Okkakekko - The art style fits me and so does the oddness; it's kinda uncanny to be honest. Ohayō (Good Morning) - Amazing, and "dat art style"; with out question the best one in the collection. The Assassin Comes to Hunt in the Mountains!! - ... Neko no Shuukai (A Gathering of Cats) - Hm, wouldn't expect Makoto Shinkai to do something like this, but it's quite decent. Uchujin Raikou Hiroshi no Baai (Invasion from Space - Hiroshi's Case) - All the sillyness! "yurururu" ~Nichijou Hen~ - Slice of life? Project Omega - If NHK was a mech? Hyotoko (Blaze/Heat Man) - Yes? Attack of Higashimachi Ni Chome (Attack of Higashimachi 2nd Burough) - Fun art style at least and it works as a parody as well, I guess. Sancha Blues (The Aromatic Tea Blues) - They mention a decent band at least - Art of Life remains a masterpiece - but part from that, it was quite boring in my own opinion. And "first press of Stairway to Heaven"? A single then, I guess..? |

So... Beautiful.
Looking back, 21 April 2016: During my last year in university, this was the most beautiful shit I'd seen to that point. I do believe it remains there, fighting with 5 Centimeters per Second. This makes me cry like a baby each damn time I watch it and it works very well as an antidepressant on top of that. There's a strong sentimental value in this anime for me personally and it's most like not as good as I want it to be. But for me, it remains a hard hitting yet beautiful short story. It's not 'The Little Match Girl', but sure as hell, it hits home just as hard in my opinion. Looking back, 25 October 2016: I can't get enough of this. I've tried to explain it before, but... Whenever I need to let go of feelings, have moment of solitude and just cry... This works more than just fine, it's more like a drug against apathy. Looking back, 21 May 2018: I wish I could put into words as to why I adore the fact that this brings me to tears every time I watch it. But I can't. These 6 minutes of pictures and words has transformed into something much more for me personally and I will be eternally grateful for its existence. |

This is way too weird for me...
Rape, hints of zoophilia and coprophilia, incest, shoe-fetish, bodies with unreal proportions, hints of water-torture… The list goes on forever… I just don’t understand these kinds of things. While I do understand some of them as standalones, bundled up as this, taken to extremes is just too weird for me… I don’t mind hentai or yuri, but I just don’t get anything out of this. There’s no plot and the erotic scenes ain’t handled in a proper way in my opinion; I prefer it simple and realistic. Odd fetishes, rape and what-not doesn’t work for me, I don’t find it interesting… Even if what I’m asking for is rare in anime/hentai, there is stuff such as “Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke wo: Anata to Koibito Tsunagi” which features a honest view on yuri relationships; no wild gangbangs, no strap-ons, no “magical or scientific” futanari . Just an honest view on two girls and their relationship not mixing in any pornographic stereotypes just kept nice, simple and realistic. Why did I even watch this..? |

First of all, don't expect anything regarding narrative in this anime. Just don't. It's full of pretentious shit and idiotic sci-fi which makes no sense. Same goes for characters, really.
The first episode is actually quite good, senseless, but I enjoyed it. Second and third is completely pointless and meant jack shit for me. However, the Evangelion-esque bullshit in the fourth and fifth episode was quite enjoyable. Full of pretentious shit, but what kills me is the fact that these episodes would be so much more interesting as a moving art gallery. Kill the God damn VO, let there be nothing but ambiance and music. I'd love the shit out of that. But in the end, this is pretty much shit with some really well made gore animations* and farting pretentious bullshit. But I think I might be one of few who enjoyed the bullshit in the two last episodes. * Check out the first episode, the "ripping" of the transhuman-esque-thing. Amazing. ** The OST for this is one of few noteworthy OST in anime as well. Some of the tracks (Genocide and Genocyber) are God damn amazing. |

From a hentai perspective: 4/10 (solid animation)
From a conceptual level: 8/10 Forum Post (by me): "Dystopia in utopia." Hentai generally bores the living hell out of me, part from the occasional but rare "pure yuri hentai". More often than not the art and animation will be mediocre, nothing special and being one of those who prefer artistic and trippy art, I sure as hell won't find it in the hentai section. On top of that, the voices will often make my ears bleed, accompanied by piss-boring music and soundscapes. But I guess none of this is the point of hentai to begin with… But every now and then, there are hentais that will capture my attention. This one did, as an honestly tragic hentai seemed like big fat lie to me. Most rape-hentais are tragic God damn it, depraved* to some degree; so I wasn't expecting much, but people kept talking about "sob moments" and such so I gave it a shot… Was it worth my time? Both yes and no; the thing is that I love the concept and I’d much like to say that it’s an extremely rough diamond. A manga or anime built from the ideas this anime (and manga, I suppose, I won’t go through the trouble of finding the manga though…) lays forth could easily deliver an extremely depressive journey and undoubtedly this anime tries to venture that path… But hey, it’s hentai… It doesn’t do it so well, due to the constant focus on sex and rape… It will never happen, but it would be cool to see this concept in a less erotic/sex-aimed view; because this dystopia-concept (or is it a utopia? I guess that can be heavily discussed) have great potential. All it needs is to be put in less sexual-view, let the characters and the world evolve more. Shit, just think how many ways you can question a viewer’s moral in a fictional world such as this one, people would go insane! But what did I think of the actual hentai? Jack shit, to be honest. The only thing that interested me was the main-characters philosophical view on the world and that a “relationship” might very well spawn in such an environment (and this wasn’t even the point of the hentai, I suppose). As I’ve already pointed out, it’s an extremely rough diamond and could be so much more if they just dropped the whole focus on “hentai” and focused more on what you actually could do with the concept; there’s a lot of potential here, I’m sure of that. But sadly, that will never happen and if it did, the anime/manga would fluke hard and would probably be considered too controversial for the mainstream… Even if the subject would be interesting to bring to the public, make them think for a change… Not that anyone does anyway… * I’m judging you if you like “rape-hentais” but lets just face it, they are very depraved most of the time. In my understanding of Aristotles "Poetics", he tries to explain to us why the art of tragedy touches us the way it does. Anyone who've read the book will quickly jump at the word catharsis and the purging of emotions; that this is the key to create art that really touches the audience.
But the book covers so much more than that and in a little side note on characters, Aristotle mentions who we should portray in our tragedies. We should not present a morally just and good person that falls into to despair, nor should we present a thief or renegade that alters from good to bad luck. But we should present characters that are like you and me; human. The everyday person, people with no moral supremacy. A person like this is someone we can relate too and above all, pity. Why pity? Because we can pity those who undeservedly happen upon bad luck. We need pity and fear to relate to the action. I'm rambling, but Koi Kaze is, according to me, a well played tragedy. Not in the classical sense, but there's a strong sense of catharsis to this anime. It starts of innocent and inviting, but then it starts to gnaw. The gnawing becomes unbearable, so you follow the dark path the show invites you to. There's a sense of serene tranquility when you enter the road, but there's a dreadful aura around you. You can see it, smell it and feel it. It's the stench of self-loathing, fear and guilt. You know you should cower and turn back, but there's a strong sensation of... Fuck this. I'm just being pretentious now, but I don't give a shit. Watch this anime if you want something gut-wrenching, yet destructively beautiful. Fuck... |

Whilst I love the original short, the series is just "too much to handle". How so? Well, the short had charm, charm that felt refreshing when I first saw it. This series however, feels bloated and outstayed its welcome.
The charm can be found and there are a couple of episodes that makes me smile and feel all squishy. But most of the time, I just stare blankly at the screen without any kind of emotional response. 2018-03-13: Took me some months to finish this. All in all, it's bloated and missed out on what made the original short heartwarming. Some episodes - Akko's Adventure in Sucyworld for example - are really great. Anyway, is this the complete shitshow people claim? Or is it the provocative masterpiece others claim it to be? Whilst I can't argue for either, I'd personally put it somewhere in the "Slightly Interesting" category, or something. Let me start by repeating something I've said before - beyond the fact that I'm drunk - I like emotions when I consume media. I don't care if it's blissful glee, scornful hatred, abject fear or total fucking misery. As long as media makes me feel something strong, I considered it a win. In short, I like strong emotions, negative or positive. And this short little show tries to do just that, it's fishing for that outburst of a pure, emotional response from the viewer. But here's the kicker, I personally didn't feel a whole lot because of the simple fact that this whole plot has been done a thousand times by now. Does it at least bring anything new to the table? Well, I guess a happy ending is the really odd one out here, seeing how most of these 1900's lesbian influenced stories tend to end in pure agony for one partner and the other partner "moving on and forgets about being gay". Of course, there are more viewpoints than this, but at large, this has been done before and much, much better. |

According to MAL, I started watching this anime in 2012, August the 16, or 810 days ago.
Now, taking my time and finally finishing it, I understand why I forgot about it. This is tiring, something I usually don't say about slice of life stuff. But obnoxious characters such as Cynthia and Riecchi really ruins shows like this for me. I know, it's down to personal preferences, but I really dislike the speedy, honey coated slice of life stuff. Sure, it works at times, but I prefer tranquility, silence and calmness over this. And the saddest part, in my opinion, is that the setting and "plot" is perfect for a slice of life. But I guess this is a case of "What Could've Been" for me... But the animations are quite nice at times, that's a bonus... No? |

I could probably rant about why I don't like it, but I'll try to boil it down as much as I can. First things first, it lacks identity despite the premise and plot. It's not a slice of life, not a comedy, not a drama nor a tragedy. It's all over the place. And to make things worse, there's no sense of direction. Are we going to focus on frills, clothes and glamor? Teenage angst and identity crisis? Mysterious sub-plots? Heck, the whole plot; a boy in a all-girls school? No, were just going to take all that in a blender and shoot random. This utter lack of direction annoyed me, as I totally lost interesting in most of the moe-blob-support characters. They are quite literally just there to be cute, even if they had a reason to be where they were. The three "main characters" have a similar problem. They don't really evovle that much beyond their archetype (or rather, stereotype). And with no direction or identity, nothing really felt rewarding in my opinion. This had a lot going for it, and as usual, I can see why some people really enjoy it. But I personally demand a sharper focus if you want to hit the "feel button". If that even was the plan. If it wasn't, well... Find a God damn theme first. Which you did, but you did nothing with it. Seriously. There are two or three episodes where the gender-question is mentioned and I'd say it's only relevant in one of them. Why not play around with the idea?! Argh... Bla bla bla bla bla. But still, watch it if you enjoy moe-blobs and "risque" plots. But I'll be forever annoyed at the lack of focus. Fuck, even Kotabo. had a better focus than this. And the art was gorgeous as well ('em frills n' clothes), but that is also lackluster in Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru. Good night... And good luck. |

But what confused the shit out of me is the fact that this is X years after the first Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru and there are no reoccurring characters. It's a completely new cast and what makes it even strange; it's almost the same plot again. But this is "bad" on another level, instead of the happy go-go confusion that was the first series, this tries to be more mature and grimdark. And I just can't handle it. And not to mention, three episodes was far to short for what Silver Link wanted to to with this, there's so much shit going on behind the scene that we're suppose to understand. We do understand, but it feels sloppy and rushed. But whatever, this was quite annoying and not really worth your time unless you really love teenage angst, brood and insecurity. |

I hate the fact that hentai focuses more on pornographic stereotypes and less on what you actually can do with it; this is a pure example that there’s more to hentai than just pointless “fanservice hentai” (with other words, there are no odd poses, magical/scientific futanari, no rape or other stereotypes to be found here; just a cute story about two girls and their relationship).
I'd love to see these characters in their own, longer anime. The hentai ain't needed, but the characters are interesting enough and it’d be fun to see them evolve in a drama/romance anime, but that will never happen… Sadly. |

Then you'd have the shit that is Violence Jack.
People over the years have proclaimed that this is the most misanthropic, nihilistic and scornful anime there is. That it's a shit stain upon the culture, bathing in hatred and gore. But I'll be honest, if this is the "black metal" or "noise" of anime, it's an utter joke. Yes, this is offensive and disgusting as hell at times. But if this is the most offensive piece people could compile, well, then I've to laugh. I'm not going to claim that I relish in the misanthropic and juvenile power fantasy shit this piece portrays. Rape, pointless murder, slaughter of people and what not, everything to get a reaction out of you. I dislike it, I find it pointless and quite a slog to watch. But worst of all, it's ineffective. Maybe the Internet has numbed me to a point where I just don't care, but I doubt it. There's a lot of shit out there that continues to move me to tears, turns my stomach inside out and best of all, stuff that stirs up strong emotions. Negative or positive for that matter. But this? This is just pointless shounen bullshit taken to extremes for no real reason. Yes, yes, someone is really angry with humanity and created a power fantasy to "express" their feelings, nothing wrong with that. But this is just juvenile. There's no punch, nothing cathartic what so ever about this. Pff... |

Expectations, mixed. This is most likely schlock, but I do hope for some really stupid stuff. One day later: It takes a lot for anime to weird me out. Episode 3, village church, was successful at this. And this is easily one of the most fragmented, confusing and inconsistent animes I've seen in a while. Episode 4: What... I... What does this have to do with anything?! Why am I suppose to care about this?! Why the BDSM vibes in a fantasy setting?! This is amazeballs. Episode 5: C... Cavemen? Why? The Rest: Discombobulated. Directionless. Random. What a beautiful mess of a train wreck this series is. Sadly, this is just an ecchi with a fun underlining plot and like a lot of anime I've seen recently, it's a case of "What Could've Been". The lore is fun, the plot is interesting and a tad bit stupid, but the execution is awful. Anyway, I don't recommend this to anyone unless you're really able to handle a lot of bullshit. And I mean a lot of fucking bullshit. Ecchi-, shounen- and shoujo-ai tropes in spades. There's a lot of shit in this beautiful mess. PS The last episode is actually kinda cute. Not saving the series, but cute. |
