I watched the currently available 20 eps.
For you to understand my review: I am a rare breed because I have a passion for trashy genres like isekai and urban cultivation, while I also have very high standards about writing and storytelling.
It's actually not a contradiction tho. I simply like what these genres are about. Well written Isekai or Urban Cultivation are very entertaining.
But also very rare... More so for urban cultivation. There are maybe 2 good UC stories and many absolutely crappy clones.
This one is NOT among the good ones.
It's not the most horrible either. It has some originality, but it's still highly
...
stereotyped and formulaic, and very poorly written.
The quality of storytelling, plot, characters, music, animation, it's all very much below average.
I mean, within the UC genre it's actually not that bad. But in general, it IS that bad.
I'd actually rate it 3 but I give an extra point for being a not completely horrible Urban Cultivation.
What I liked:
- the original idea of a mortal being put in charge of the trash and recycling station of the celestial plane
- very little fanservice
- surprisingly no "how dare you!", unlike 99% of cultivation and urban cultivation stories.
- some action scenes are "okeish".
I'm afraid that's all tho. Nothing else noteworthy.
What I disliked:
- very basic and superficial plot, paired to a mediocre and at times confusing lazy storytelling
- subpar 3D animation, specially considering current standards
- mega naive immediate power-ups: dude sucks so much at fighting that he's kicked out of his martial arts school, and yet just with some energy blahblah he becomes a super fighter also in close combat? Makes no sense AND it's very poorly executed.
- "chosen one" bs, lame
- extremely bad comedic aspects, accompanied by those typical ridiculous sound effects of cheap donghua.
- VERY short episodes, effectively only 7 min of actual content. And a lot of time is spent in narratively unnecessary things
- it uses some of the stupidest tropes of the genres, while it omits those that I enjoy, like the hardcore face-slapping, the cheat-win at jade stones auctions, the humiliation of past foes, of the horrible fiancé/ex, and of the abusive clan, as also curing the x important person etc, things which in many UC are so poorly made that they got a bad reputation, but personally I find them funny and they are the main reason why I enjoy the UC genre.
Overall, I honestly see no reason to watch 40 eps of this thing.
But, your call.
