Nike, a punky outsider girl, runs through the city of the future! In a city where the transportation infrastructure has developed dramatically and walking is no longer necessary, Nike runs alone in her favorite sneakers. Her goal is to get sneakers from the legendary manufacturer "Dynameros", which can only be obtained on the black market. As Nike runs despite being chased by a horde of cyber police, a woman appears in front of her. That woman is none other than Sherry, the daughter of the president of "Fractal Walter", a major company that created the era. What kind of story will the encounter between these two opposing people produce?

Kicks and Punk is a fun little sci-fi short-film about the joy of movement and sneakers.

In it, a girl gets chased by cyber cops for disobeying traffic rules in a world where nobody has to walk anymore. They can just float along the street. Athletes as we know it don't exist. Why is the girl running? Because she has a pair of shoes she wants to find. The girl has a chance encounter with a woman involved in shoe by bumping into her. They form a friendship and learn about each other and in the end the girl is gifted the shows she always wanted.

The ... world is bright and and colorful and shows a good knowledge on movement and perspective. Some of the framing is really well-done. A comparison may be to the classic 2008 video game Mirror's Edge and some of the perspective shots while jumping in it.

The characters are kind and show some heart and the relationship is pure and sweet. There is not really much more one can get out of that length.

There is also some potential dialogue about the environmental and health effects of humans not walking anymore even if not explored in depth. For as vibrant as the world is a hint of critique of this reality and the cops chasing the girl give it a contrast that lends a dystopic edge to an otherwise utopia-painted world.

For ten minutes it's more than worth the time.
