This review is for first season / 38 episodes.

I am writing this review because there is only one available and my guy said only bots gives this anime 10 out of 10, so I am kinda offended and he can eat sh**.

He noted that web novel is good and anime as a whole is bad adaptation.
- "animation is trash, the voice acting is trash, the music is trash, the story is trash"

I do not read web novels so I will not comment on that part but I do not know what my guy expects because compared to a lot of other chinese anime everything he ... noted is at least decent.

My answer to him is that he should watch at least some of anime below before commenting like that:

At first I gave anime gift grade 9 out of 10, but after 20 episodes or so I changed it to 10 out of 10 purely because it was so much fun for me watching main character saying one big F U to the world at some point.

Negative:
1. Start of anime is bit random, so you are not really sure what to expect.

Neutral:
1. "Situ Nan" (some random guy who only has his soul left and follows main character) is kinda nerfed version of "Yao Chen" from "Battle Through the Heavens".
2. Main character does not stay in one place for long, more like jumping from one to another due to circumstances of him running from someone, etc. where I personally would like to enjoy worldbuilding aspect little bit more.

Positives:
1. I really like "Wang Lin" (main character) character development through episodes (especially episode 10 and onwards), as he is just some random guy at start of anime who does not know a lot about world and cultivation and then eventually he learns how cruel world really is.
2. Power levels and scaling is easy to understand.
3. Animation is among better/best ones for chinese 3d anime.
4. Action scenes are interesting enough and main character also has cool abilities.
5. Girl who fails for main character is also done well from how she acts / her behavior to how she looks (spoiler: she is beatifull)
(she is only shown in few episodes for now, but they should come together at some point I expect)
6. As I understand same guy who wrote "A Will Eternal" wrote this peace of art and that is one of my top 10 anime, so I want to support this one also.

As someone who is reading the original chinese novel alongside the donghua adaptation, I can say that the adaptation decisions are actually an improvement. Yes a lot of cultivation details are condensed and it may feel like the pacing is slightly fast, but you have to remember this is a 2k+ chapter novel being summarized in 76 episodes. Not to criticize the novel but I would say that it would verge on tedious if the donghua did in fact keep every single detail for the visual format. The donghua also adds a lot more emotional value to certain key scenes and fleshed out some of ... the more critical side characters. Otherwise, most of the important plot points have been adapted, although some plot points slightly rearranged for better flow in the donghua (but it does not impact the overall plot and usually makes for more impactful visual experience).

Positives:
-Visuals: The modelling of the ML and FL certainly got a large portion of the budget but important side characters do also have good looking & unique models...lots of eye candy here especially the ML (trust the process, he gets a lot of different looks) ;) Overall visuals are beautiful, animation is actually much better and smoother than a lot of other donghua.
-Background music: Quite fitting for the battle scenes, there is an insert song 神临 in episode 36 that is particularly epic and satisfying.
-Voice acting: Nothing to complain about with the voice acting, it is what you expect. ML is voiced by 史泽鲲 (Jin Zixuan in MDZS, Kong Xuan in Tianbao)
-Plot: (This is not a criticism of the donghua itself, since it follows the novel, but will be more useful for people are watching this without prior knowledge.) As someone who does not enjoy stories that revolve around sappy romance subplots and annoying FLs, this is very very satisfying so far. The ML has good character development, he has backbone and knows what he wants.

Negatives:
-There are some concepts that are not really explained in terms of cultivation (particularly what 极境 is and the significance, sorry I'm not sure what the english translation uses since I'm watching/reading in the original chinese).

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the series "Renegade Immortal." It stands out as one of the finest donghua produced to date, featuring an exceptional storyline, well-developed characters, and thrilling fight sequences. The main character, Wang Lin, is particularly compelling; his strength and unwavering determination resonate deeply with the audience. He embodies the qualities we hope to see in a protagonist, engaging in intense battles that deliver the excitement we crave.

The animation quality is remarkable, showcasing masterfully choreographed fight scenes that elevate the viewing experience. I extend my gratitude to the producers and the studio for their outstanding work on this series. ... I sincerely hope they continue to create such captivating content in the future. Thank you!

I request u to give this series a try after few episodes u will bing it, I promise u will love the series. It’s a MASTERPIECE.

I do not read the Chinese language. I also balk at reading an English translation of a 2k+ chapter web novel simply to get a "feel" for the source material. I know when I enjoy a series, and I've enjoyed this one quite a bit.

The only reason I'm posting is because of that one "I give it a 1" rating from someone who watched 8 episodes at the time and decided to write. Their tastes in Chinese donghua are different from my tastes. As someone coming into this without any background in the source material, I find myself looking forward to each ... new episode. So, newcomers, don't shy away from this donghua.

I'm just here to say that as of now, 50 episodes in, currently the release of the week that has me at the edge of my seat.

Animation is great, current plot is great, hope it keeps up.

It is kind of similar to A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality, the protagonist doesn't have any spectacular set goal in the beginning, there aren't particularly deep sect/family connections, which makes it seem less trope filled.

A negative can be that the story itself isn't particularly unique, but it makes up for it with its great execution.

If you have read the novel, I'm sure they have cut ... a good chunk out, as it feels very streamlined.
